Welcome to the FFXIV Arcanist Hunting Log Rank 1 Guide! This is the penultimate class I need to cover and I will have finished all the FFXIV Hunting Logs, hurrah. But you’re not here to hear me celebrate, but to find the enemies you need to clear that first log of yours. So, I guess we’ll do that then!
Unlocking the Arcanist Hunting Log
You start the Arcanist class by enrolling at the Arcanists’ Guild in Limsa Lominsa with the quest: Way of the Arcanist. Or by starting your character with that class. The guild is found on the same level at the Aetheryte Plaza (X:4.5, Y:11.2)
You will receive your hunting log as part of the early dialogues.
Little Ladybug (La Noscea)
Number Required: 3

Where is the Little Ladybug in La Noscea?
Your initial quest for your class will mark the spot in Middle La Noscea. It’s just a bit East of the Zephyr Gate to Limsa. In La Noscea, they’re found mingling with the Wharf Rats.
ConsoleGamesWiki says there are some in Lower La Noscea. I just stuck to the ones from the quest to keep it simple.
Warning: Skogs Fru
No, that’s not a typo! I once had a laughing fit – unfair though it was – when I saw someone come out of Limsa and immediately get defeated by Skogs Fru. Skogs is a Ladybug – but is also level 50 and has its own name. Don’t challenge Skogs if you’re just starting out in your new class!

Limsa Lominsa: Aetheryte Plaza
Wharf Rat
Number Required: 3

The Wharf Rat seems a bit like a distant cousin of the fluffier Star Marmot. They’re just as cute, but is it still a rat. You’re in a naval area and we know how welcome rats are onboard a ship.
Well, they’re equally welcome off ships too!
Where are Wharf Rats?
I’ve gone for the location marked in your intro quest (or at least one of them), as you can find them near Little Ladybugs. This is just East of Limsa’s Zephyr Gate.

Limsa Lominsa: Aetheryte Plaza
Lost Lamb
Number Required: 3

To be honest, the Lost Lamb does not appear to be very …lost. It happily munches grass with other sheep – because to be honest, this one is pretty-much fully grown, yes?
Finding their location is also really easy. Head to Middle La Noscea from Limsa Lominsa and you can see them. You’ll also find Little Ladybugs and Wharf Rats nearby.

Wind Sprite
Number Required: 3

If Arcanist is your first class then the Wind Sprite may be your first encounter with Sprites. They are basically concentrated elements, where elements in FFXIV includes others such as Earth, Lightning, Water, Fire and Ice. They also appear in places where you’d expect that element to be present. High up for Wind, Snowy places for Ice and in or near rivers for water, for example.
Wind Sprite Location
The ones you want are in Lower La Noscea, so exit Limsa in that direction (using the Tempest Gate or Aetheryte/Shard). Head towards Red Rooster Stead and you’ll find them.
Sprites are everywhere in FFXIV. But for the purposes of the Arcanist Hunting Log Rank 1, I’ve stuck to the low-level ones in La Noscea!
Region/Area
Lower La Noscea: Cedarwood
Nearest Aetheryte
Limsa Lominsa (Any)
Puk Hatchling
Number Required: 3

Puk Hatchlings are Scalekin of the tiny variety! They look more like Lizard-Bats, but that’s just my weird brain talking. Anyway, they can be found in two different zones of La Noscea. Assuming you are in the L1-L10 range, you should use the map below.
Puk Hatchling Location
Now, the location map below is right outside of Limsa Lominsa in Middle La Noscea and these are about L4-5. The others, in Western La Noscea, are around Level 15. For some reason you have this enemy both in Hunting Logs Rank 1 and Rank 2. And I think it is still true that you can use these ones for both ranks.
Western La Noscea
Assuming you haven’t cleared the Puks out before you head to Western La Noscea, you’ll find them in the same area as the Hedgemoles and Dusk Bats.
Region/Area
Middle La Noscea: Zephyr Drift
Nearest Aetheryte
Limsa Lominsa (Any)
Nesting Buzzard (La Noscea)
Number Required: 3

If this is your first class Hunting Log, then welcome to the creature species that’s super-annoying: the Nesting Buzzard – and its kin. This family has a habit of being able to see you from a distance. Probably because, you know, they can fly.
Location
Head out of Limsa Lomisa into Lower La Noscea. Your targets are North of Red Rooster Stead and not far from Wind Sprites
When you travel to Thanalan, you’ll find Nesting Buzzards there too.
Region/Area
Lower La Noscea: Cedarwood
Nearest Aetheryte
Limsa Lominsa (Any)
Bogy
Number Required: 3

If you started your character’s story in Limsa Lominsa, you do not need to seek the Bogy purposefully. The MSQ will take you to Seasong Grotto 1, which is where they are.
Where is the Bogy?
The grotto I just mentioned is marked on your Middle La Noscea map. If you trace the road South-West from Summerford Farm, you’ll spot it. The bogies are underground at that location.
Also, if you’ve just been clearing Bee Clouds, the grotto is North of one bee hotspot.
Region/Area

Nearest Aetheryte
Middle La Noscea: Summerford Farm
Cave Bat
Number Required: 3

Look into the glowy eyes of the Cave Bat. Sorry, I meant, don’t look into their glowy eyes!
Cave Bat Location
Before you begin looking for classic caves in Lower La Noscea, head to Blind Iron Mines instead. The bats are inside the mines.

Galago
Number Required: 3

If this is not your first class, then you’ll likely notice that that Galago is La Noscea’s Opo-opo. They share the same look, and have similar ranged attacks. Don’t get awed by its cuteness and fluffy tail! They can be vicious, especially if you anger more than one.
Galago Location
They can be found North-East of Blind Iron Mines, where the Cave Bats live.
They are always found in groups, though. So, be careful not to attack too many at once if you’re roughly on-level.
Region/Area
Lower La Noscea: Cedarwood
Nearest Aetheryte
Limsa Lominsa (Any)
Grounded Pirate
Number Required: 3

The Grounded Pirate, alongside the Grounded Raider loiters with others around their small camp in Middle La Noscea. These are the “gladiator” class scoundrels, who wield a knife and a tiny little shield!
Terrifying, aren’t they? Regardless, Limsa and pirates don’t get along well, so go “do your duty”.
Where are They?
You can find them South-East of The Cookpot, a circle of cut-out ground (complete with wall) where the Wounded Aurochs are.
If you’re about on-level, the other nearby enemies will join in. You can try to draw them away one at a time, I know I’ve done it that way before.

Lightning Sprite
Number Required: 3

As we had with the Wind Sprite, Lightning Sprites are just a concentrated form of their element. These ones are really pretty too, at least in my humble opinion!
Lightning Sprite Location
As I mentioned before, they are all over. However, for the purposes of the Arcanist Hunting Log, the ones I’ve marked are near Swiftperch in Western La Noscea. Others can be found near the Fat Dodos.
As well as those, this wiki has two locations in Lower La Noscea:
- X:19, Y:34
- X:20, Y:32
Region/Area
Western La Noscea: Quarterstone
Nearest Aetheryte
Western La Noscea: Swiftperch

Note, this excludes any EXP gained for defeating the individual enemies and bonuses due to Rested EXP.
When Can I Start Hunting Log Rank 2?
Once:
- You have cleared Rank 1, and
- You are at least Level 10 as an Arcanist.
