When Can I Start Rank 2?
When you have
- Cleared the Arcanist Hunting Log Rank 1, and
- Reached at least Level 10 as an Arcanist.
Sewer Mole
Number Required: 3
If a Sewer Mole is roaming around with a fair few others of its kind, what is the Maelstrom doing about sanitation in the area?! Actually, some things are best left unanswered!
Sewer Mole Location
Pushing gross thoughts away for a bit, you can find them North of Swiftperch in Western La Noscea. They mix quite happily with Fat Dodos.
While I’ve marked some dots on the map, very often there were more than one Mole in a particular spot. There is also a wide array of other enemies nearby that count for various other hunting logs. See: Nearby Targets →

Western La Noscea: SwiftperchMossless Goobbue
Number Required: 3
The Mossless Goobbue looks pretty mossy to me! I have not given one particular coordinate for these critters. This is because they’re spread out a fair bit and will depend on whether other players are questing in the area at the same time.
Mossless Goobbue Locations
They’re roughly in two areas of Lower La Noscea:
- Near Moraby Drydocks, and
- Around the Moraby Bay label on the map. Here’s one of those areas, with the other map below:

Lower La Noscea: The Gods' GripNearest Aetheryte
Lower La Noscea: Moraby Drydocks, or Limsa LominsaFat Dodo
Number Required: 3
The Wild Dodo must be a skinny bird, because this one is a Fat Dodo. Or…something.
Fat Dodo Location
The first settlement you come to in Western La Noscea is Swiftperch. Just North/North-West of there is a field full of Dodos, some of which are sat on their nests.
Nearby FATEs
Just be aware, especially if you’re within level-range, that the following FATEs often spawn in this area:

Western La Noscea: QuarterstoneNearest Aetheryte
Western La Noscea: SwiftperchArbor Buzzard (La Noscea)
Number Required: 3
Well, that was a close call! I nearly posted the Shroud version of the Arbor Buzzard for Arcanists! If you’re in a different region, though, click/tap here.
These annoying “Cloudkin” are aggressive by nature and can swarm you if you draw the attention of more than one. Not great if you’re casting spells, that’s for sure. If you’re near to Level 14, try pulling one away from a group.
Arbor Buzzard Location in La Noscea
They’re on the way to, and near, The Brewer’s Beacon in Western La Noscea. This is on the Southern Edge between Swiftperch and Aleport.

Arbor Buzzard (La Noscea)Qiqirn Eggdigger
Number Required: 3
Curiously, the Qiqirn Eggdigger appears to be nowhere near creatures that could provide actual eggs. Nevertheless, these rat-folk will attack you on-sight if you interrupt their attempt to find eggs in an eggless place!
Qiqirn Eggdigger Location
They occupy a small camp on the Salt Strand “beach” in Lower La Noscea, West of Moraby Drydocks.

Lower La Noscea: The Gods' GripNearest Aetheryte
Lower La Noscea: Moraby DrydocksDusk Bat
Number Required: 3
Despite its name, the Dusk Bat is actually an all-day-all-night bat. But its hypnotic, glowing eyes look just as weird, no matter which part of the day you find them! Fortunately for you (maybe?) is that they’re not aggressive if you leave them alone.
But you wouldn’t clear your Conjurer Hunting Log Rank 2 by leaving them alone, now, would you?
Dusk Bat Location
There are far more than you’ll ever need North of Aleport in Western La Noscea. There are also a few on the path towards Upper La Noscea. This area in general is great for the Hunting Logs and you can clear a huge chunk of it in one go.
That’s because, nearby, there are Hedgemoles and Puk Hatchlings.

Number Required: 3
Now, bear with me, because the Puk Hatchling is a bit strange. And I’m not talking about its bulbous head, either. It’s strange because there are are two places to find them – and of much different levels too.
Puk Hatchling Location
Now, the location map below is right outside of Limsa Lominsa in Middle La Noscea and these are about L4-5. The others, in Western La Noscea, are around Level 15. But it doesn’t matter if you’re doing this for Marauder Rank 2 or Arcanist Rank 1, it seems you can use this group.
Western La Noscea
Assuming you haven’t cleared the Puks out before you head to Western La Noscea, you’ll find them in the same area as the Hedgemoles and Dusk Bats.
Region/Area
Middle La Noscea: Zephyr DriftNearest Aetheryte
Limsa Lominsa (Any)Hedgemole
Number Required: 3
The Hedgemole is the same critter as the Tuco-Tuco. The only difference is that this one is in La Noscea and the other is in Thanalan.
Hedgemole Location
These are in roughly the same area as the Dusk Bats, North of Aleport in Western La Noscea.

Western La Noscea: AleportRothlyt Pelican
Number Required: 3
Between Aleport and Camp Skull Valley, the hulking Rothlyt Pelican roams with quite a few of its kin. There are a few species with this look, such as the Axe Beak. You’ll come across that in Arcanist Rank 3.
Rothlyt Pelican Location
To be more specific about where they are, you can find them either side of the marked road towards Camp Skull Valley. If you take the circle from Hedgemole and head North-West, you’ll find a larger cluster of pelicans too.

Number Required: 3
The Killer Mantis – as though the Preying Mantis does not also kill!
Killer Mantis Location
Okay, back to the real reason you’re here. You can find them on both paths leading to the two Tidegates of Western La Noscea. If you deal with the Rothlyt Pelicans, then these enemies are not much further West.

The Bumble Beetle is La Noscea’s version of the Boring Weevil. It’s a dark grey and yellow striped bug with furry antennae. And there are loads of them.
Bumble Beetle Location
They can be found in the Oakwood area of Upper La Noscea, which is most easily reached from Western La Noscea. The bugs in question are both:
- on the same level as Wild Wolf enemies, and
- on Thalaos where the Kobold Pickman and those of other ranks are.

When Can I Start Hunting Log Rank 3?
Once:
- You have cleared Rank 2, and
- You are at least Level 20 as an Arcanist.
TL;DR Command Your Carbuncles with the Arcanist Hunting Log Rank 2
It may seem like a grind, but the Hunting Logs give you a prime chance to learn your Arcanist summoning skills. Each summon has a different attack and grants you combat actions specific to that Carbuncle. Practice is, after all, the way to step nearer to perfection. But more importantly, helps you survive solo content and makes you better in groups.
