By the time you start the Arcanist Hunting Log Rank 4, you can have chosen to become a Summoner, a Scholar, or both. And, if this is your first class, run the Summoner quests alongside the MSQ when they become available. There are some interesting links between the two.
But you came here to easily find your Hunting Log targets, and so, here you go!
When Can I Start Rank 4?
When you have
- Cleared the Arcanist Hunting Log Rank 3, and
- Reached at least Level 30 in an Arcanist-based class (Arcanist/Scholar/Summoner).
Qiqirn Gullroaster
Number Required: 4

You are never left guessing what any Qiqirn are up to, like the Qiqirn Eggdigger for example. The Qiqirn Gullroaster variety have a beautiful campfire going not far from Gullperch tower! Sizzling gull for lunch, anyone?
Where are Qiqirn Gullroasters?
They have a camp South-West of the Costa del Sol in Eastern La Noscea. There are always Qiqirn wandering about here, but when the FATE Jewels of the Isle is on, then non-FATE Qiqirns become FATE-ones. Both count, so this is just a heads-up.
Also involved in FATE
The other FATE you can find them in is Careless Whiskers.

Grass Raptor
Number Required: 4

While there are many different types of Raptor, the Grass Raptor lives in Eastern La Noscea. There are actually two places you can find them, but the map shows you those that are just outside of Wineport’s gate.
The second place to look is further South of Wineport – around X:16, Y:25

Gigantoad
Number Required: 4

Well, they weren’t kidding when they named the Gigantoad, that’s for sure! There are enough toads here, so wander up and down the river here to complete this Hunting Log entry. Just be aware that it is also a prime spot for farming Gigantoad Skins for Leatherworker crafting, so expect other players to pop by during your trip.

Sundrake
Number Required: 4

Sundrakes are the battle creatures of the Amalj’aa. As such, they are found in Southern Thanalan. This breed specifically roams the Sagolii Desert in the South-Eastern corner.
Involved in MSQ
If this is your first Hunting Log or character, then you may not need to purposefully go and hunt them. They are part of the MSQ quest The Drake Exception.
Regardless of which class you’re hunting for, that quest asks for more Sundrakes to be slain than you require for your log.

Colibri
Number Required: 4

“Squawk, Two-Legged Landlubber!” Well, at least this one doesn’t belong to a pirate. The Colibri are beautiful, pink, toucan-like birds in Eastern La Noscea. But they can be aggressive and attack people at random. So I guess that’s why you need to “trim their numbers”.
Where are They?
Head North along the beach from the Costa del Sol and you’ll see some at beach-level before you hit Hidden Falls. However, there are just as many on the grassy bit above your head, than at sea-level. If other people are questing here, or also working on their Hunting Log, head up the hill then come back South.

Coeurl
Number Required: 4

Most Coeurls found in FFXIV are, you know, described in some way, for example the Jungle Coeurls. This one is not.
To make matters a little more complicated, where the variety you need is found, there are also Young ones that do not count for your Hunting Logs:
Where are Coeurls?
I’m sorry for having to use the name so many times in one description. It’s really hard to avoid it! Anyway, these kitties are in Outer La Noscea along the North Eastern edge. Some are standing and watching, doing a “Lion King” thing. Without the holding up of the cub that is. You could take your Kitten minion for laughs.

Mildewed Goobbue
Number Required: 1

I’m not sure what this one, solitary Mildewed Goobbue did to warrant being on the Arcanist Hunting Log. But I could only find one of its kind. And I did look.
There is only one Goobbue of this name, and thankfully, you only need one to clear that Log entry.

Snow Wolf Pup
Number Required: 4

Aw, a puppy! One with enormous claws, and fangs and might rip your face off. Maybe the Snow Wolf Pup is not so cute.
Snow Wolf Pup Location
These are found West of the Observatorium not far from the entrance to Dzemael Darkhold. Don’t do what I did and stray further into the Boulder Downs where Snow Wolves are. Stick within the Dragonhead boundary!
Alternative Aetheryte
Revenant’s Toll in Mor Dhona isn’t much different in distance away than the Camp Dragonhead one.

Dryad
Number Required: 2

The first time I ever came across the term Dryad was in relation to Narnia, with some of those looking like living, moving trees. So, here in FFXIV in the North Shroud this type of autumnal Treant is aptly named.
There are a fair few of the walking trees towards the narrow, natural passage of Proud Creek as well as a couple in it. Just be careful if you run Smells Like Tree Spirit. While the FATE target isn’t too challenging, the Dryads around it get involved thanks to Level Sync.

Feral Croc
Number Required: 4

Feral Crocs have really weird, empty eye sockets and an even stranger snappy mouth. They roam the area between Camp Dragonhead and the Obervatorium in Coerthas Central Highlands.
Unlike many other classes, you only need to hunt four down for your Arcanist Hunting Log Rank 4. I’ve put five dots on the map and there are a couple of FATEs below too.

Taurus
Number Required: 4

The hulking, sinister-looking Taurus inhabits the tunnel cave of The Ogre’s Belly in Coerthas. And it’s not the only Voidsent around there, either.
Where is the Taurus?
I wanted to go into a bit more depth, simply to make navigating it easier for you. The Ogre’s Belly may look like a “loop” tunnel, but you can’t get in on the southern end at that point. If you’re on the snowy plain then enter the tunnel at the nothern end (around X:32.5, Y:12).
I believe that Witchdrop connects to the Ogre’s Belly, as I came across Vodoriga while plotting the points on my map. So if you want to enter from the South, go via Witchdrop (walk down, don’t fall).

Molted Ziz
Number Required: 4

One of various breeds of similar bird, the Molted Ziz is part of the family that includes the otherwise nondescript…Ziz.
This kind lives in Larkscall, which can be very murky, but their size makes them easy to spot. Larkscall is very busy with enemies, though. So if you’re around L40 make sure your gear is okay.
Where are the Molted Ziz?
They’re in the first wide area of Larkscall, if you enter from Little Solace, anyway.

Total EXP Available
Note, this excludes any EXP gained for defeating the individual enemies and bonuses due to Rested EXP.
When Can I Start Hunting Log Rank 5?
Once:
- You have cleared Rank 4, and
- You are at least Level 40 in an Arcanist-based class (including Summoner and/or Scholar).
TL;DR Summoners and Scholars Can Still Clear the Arcanist Hunting Log Rank 4
I had to have this drummed into me by former FC-mates in my early days. Summoners and Scholars both earn Arcanist EXP. That’s why you could unlock both, only play as a Scholar and still level the Summoner. The same is true for your Hunting Logs. Go with which class/job you prefer.
If you do landscape quests and FATEs as a Scholar, though, maybe set your Chocobo to tank mode? Anyway, hopefully this guide has been useful. Rank 5 is in the works, but may take a couple of weeks due to other things.
Have fun in Eorzea, friends.
