These gangly creatures have a strange beauty about them if you can get up-close, but they're pretty vicious if you're not overlevelled! I nearly said the Preying Mantis was average player-character height, forgetting that three of mine are only about 5ft in height! You still can't miss them, even if you're tall though!
Preying Mantis Location
You can find the Preying Mantis towards the Ship Graveyard on the Isles of Umbra. Depending on other players, there's nearly always one in the crevace that leads to the beach too.
