When Can I Start Rank 2?
Once:
- You have cleared the Marauder Hunting Log Rank 1, and
- You are at least Level 10 as a Marauder.
Neither requirement is exactly difficult at this stage.
Firefly (La Noscea)
Number Required: 4
This Firefly seems to want to gather its friends to gaze out over the ocean for some reason! They glow quite a bright green, especially at night – or like this picture of it, when against the darker colour of the sea.
Firefly Location (La Noscea)
La Noscea has two locations you can use to clear this entry of your Marauder Hunting Log Rank 2:
Lower La Noscea: (X:26.5, Y:37)
On the cliff overlooking Moraby Drydocks:
Western La Noscea (X:23, Y:20.2)
Near a monument by the North Tidegate:
Region/Area
Lower La Noscea: Moraby BayNearest Aetheryte
Lower La Noscea: Moraby DrydocksMossless Goobbue
Number Required: 4
The Mossless Goobbue looks pretty mossy to me! Biology aside, I decided not to try and give one particular coordinate for these critters. This is because they’re spread out a fair bit and will depend on whether other players are questing in the area at the same time.
Mossless Goobbue Location
Well, locations. They are in two roughly-defined areas of Lower La Noscea: near Moraby Drydocks and around the Moraby Bay label on the map. Here’s one of those areas, with the other map below:
Region/Area
Lower La Noscea: The Gods' GripNearest Aetheryte
Lower La Noscea: Moraby Drydocks, or Limsa LominsaFat Dodo
Number Required: 4
Clearly, the Wild Dodo was a skinny bird, because this one is a Fat Dodo. Okay, so both look round and podgy, but never mind!
Fat Dodo Location
The first settlement you come to in Western La Noscea is Swiftperch. Just North/North-West of there is a field full of Dodos, some of which are sat on their nests.
Nearby FATEs
Just be aware, especially if you’re within level-range, that the following FATEs often spawn in this area:
Region/Area
Western La Noscea: QuarterstoneNearest Aetheryte
Western La Noscea: SwiftperchMoraby Mole
Number Required: 4
Trust me when I say, you’ll have no problem finding a Moraby Mole! For a start, the clue’s in the name, so you know where to start looking.
Moraby Mole Location
There are loads of the things just West of Moraby Drydocks. This is a good thing, because East is the sea..
Anyway, I found at least seven of the things, so clearing this Hunting Log entry really won’t cause you trouble.
There are also Mossless Goobbues and various other enemies meandering around too. Some are auto-aggressive, but not all.
Region/Area
Lower La Noscea: The Gods' GripNearest Aetheryte
Lower La Noscea: Moraby DrydocksQiqirn Eggdigger
Number Required: 4
Curiously, the Qiqirn Eggdigger appears to be nowhere near creatures that could provide actual eggs. Nevertheless, these rat-folk will attack you on-sight if you interrupt their attempt to find eggs in an eggless place!
Qiqirn Eggdigger Location
They occupy a small camp on the Salt Strand “beach” in Lower La Noscea, West of Moraby Drydocks. Some are gathered together, so it’s up to you whether you want to aggro the stragglers or dive in face-first.
According to the in-game information, this “beach” was caused by a shard of Dalamud’s shell. Just proof that bad events can still have some beautiful outcomes occasionally.

Lower La Noscea: The Gods' GripNearest Aetheryte
Lower La Noscea: Moraby DrydocksRhotano Buccaneer
Number Required: 4
After the Grounded Raider of Marauder Rank 1, you’re facing another type of pirate – the Rhotano Buccaneer. Who is also boat-less. I’m also pretty sure they’re all clones.
Rhotano Buccaneer Location
Thankfully, these also take up a very small camp on the remains of a building in Western La Noscea. This is along the northern edge of the map, past the Fat Dodos. Even simpler is if you find the map pin that says “The Flock” then head a bit North-East, you’ll find them.
Region/Area
Western La Noscea: QuarterstoneNearest Aetheryte
Western La Noscea: SwiftperchDusk Bat
Number Required: 4
Despite its name, the Dusk Bat is actually an all-day-all-night bat. But it doesn’t look any less freaky in the daytime, with its hypnotic, glowing eyes! Fortunately for you (maybe?) is that they’re not aggressive if you leave them alone.
But you wouldn’t clear a hunting log by leaving them alone, now, would you?
Dusk Bat Location
There are far more than you’ll ever need North of Aleport in Western La Noscea. There are also a few on the path towards Upper La Noscea. This area in general is great for the Hunting Logs and you can clear a huge chunk of it in one go.

Western La Noscea: Skull ValleyNearest Aetheryte
Western La Noscea: AleportHedgemole
Number Required: 2
It’s a Molecupine! Well, no, I made that word up when I first wrote about the Tuco-Tuco, but the Hedgemole is the same creature. The only difference is that this one is in La Noscea and the other is in Thanalan.
Hedgemole Location
These are in roughly the same area as the Dusk Bats, North of Aleport in Western La Noscea.
I had started to add map pins when creating the minimap here, but they were so close together, a circled area was enough. Stay below the bumpy brown line and you’ll be fine.
Region/Area
Western La Noscea: Skull ValleyNearest Aetheryte
Western La Noscea: AleportPuk Hatchling
Number Required: 3
Now, bear with me, because the Puk Hatchling is a bit strange. And I’m not talking about its bulbous head, either. It’s strange because there are are two places to find them – and of much different levels too.
Puk Hatchling Location
Now, the location map below is right outside of Limsa Lominsa in Middle La Noscea and these are about L4-5. The others, in Western La Noscea, are around Level 15. But it doesn’t matter if you’re doing this for Marauder Rank 2 or Arcanist Rank 1, it seems you can use this group.
Western La Noscea
Assuming you haven’t cleared the Puks out before you head to Western La Noscea, you’ll find them in the same area as the Hedgemoles and Dusk Bats.
Region/Area
Middle La Noscea: Zephyr DriftNearest Aetheryte
Limsa Lominsa (Any)Rothlyt Pelican
Number Required: 4
Between Aleport and Camp Skull Valley, the hulking Rothlyt Pelican roams with quite a few of its kin. You’ll come across its cousin, the Giant Pelican, at a higher level, though it doesn’t feature in the same hunting log as these ones.
Rothlyt Pelican Location
To be less vague about where you can find them, they are either side of the marked road towards Camp Skull Valley. If you take the circle from Hedgemole and head North-West, you’ll find a larger cluster of pelicans too.
Region/Area
Western La Noscea: Skull ValleyNearest Aetheryte
Western La Noscea: AleportKiller Mantis
Number Required: 4
The Killer Mantis – to distinguish it from the other Mantises (or mantes, apparently) that do not kill things!
Killer Mantis Location
Okay, back to the real reason you’re here. You can find them on both paths leading to the two Tidegates of Western La Noscea. If you clear the Rothlyt Pelicans, then these enemies are not much further West.
You will usually find more on the path towards the South Tidegate. But if another player is clearing a load, just head North and hunt in peace (hopefully).

The coordinates below are for the largest cluster.

Western La Noscea: Skull ValleyNearest Aetheryte
Western La Noscea: AleportWild Wolf
Number Required: 4
The sinister-looking, huge-clawed, sharp-fanged Wild Wolf needed naming this way to make sure we weren’t confused with tame wolves! If you’ve managed to avoid wolves until now, be aware that usually their first attack is an AoE directly at you that gives you a damage-over-time. Just side-step the AoE then hammer it’s furry behind until it is defeated.
You’ll come across other wolves further into the game and I believe they all have that first attack.
Wild Wolf Location
These are found in Upper La Noscea – the Oakwood island. This is most quickly reached by taking the North-running path from Aleport in Western La Noscea. Upon entering the Upper region, these pointy-eared delights are there to welcome you!

When Can I Start Hunting Log Rank 3?
Once:
- You have cleared Rank 2, and
- You are at least Level 20 as a Marauder.
TL;DR Take on a Wider Variety of Enemies with the FFXIV Marauder Hunting Log Rank 2
As ever, the more you do something, the harder things need to be so you continue to grow. Many of the enemies in the Marauder Hunting Log Rank 2 are in groups. This is especially useful to you as a tank class, to get used to using your AoE skills and having multiple enemies in your face. As with all my other FFXIV Hunting Log Guides, remember to enjoy doing it, rather than just clear it.
I’ll see you back here for Rank 3 very soon!
