Welcome to your guide for the FFXIV Lancer Hunting Log Rank 2. As this covers Level 10-20, you are still based in the Black Shroud. As with the Conjurer Log 2, you’ll be spending most of this one in the East Shroud. I’m not a fan of grinding, but given that many of them are in that area, once you’re L13-15, you could just blitz a bunch in one go. Your choice!
So let’s look at where your Rank 2 Log entries can be found!
Lancer 11 Reward: 2,300
Arbor Buzzard
Number Required:3
A relative of the Northern Vulture and just as annoying, the Arbor Buzzard hovers around other Hunting Log targets. As is the family trait, they're very aggressive. Unless you're comfortable with enemies all around you, be careful with any AoE attacks you may have around here.
It's Easy to Spot Arbor Buzzards!
Assuming another player did not just clear this log entry, or a related quest, a moment before you arrived the best place to find them is Lilystone:
The Treant Sapling is one of various types of Treant in the Twelveswood. The only difference, except compared to those that are autumnal-looking, is the size. The saplings can easily be found not far from Gridania's Blue Badger Gate. Of course, that means it's also easy for other players to find them. Don't compete with others, come back and clear it later if needs be.Clearing your Lancer Hunting Log Rank 2 may be important to you, but the same is true of others!
Note:
The coordinates listed nearby are just the approximate location of one. For others, see the map, as they usually wander around on their own. Occasionally there may be two near each other, but I've not seen it often.
Walking vegetables. No really. And the Mandragora is the kindest and cutest-looking one of its kin. There are some really angry-looking veggies elsewhere in FF14! It is hard to get my head around these and the Sylphs both being seedkin, given how personable Sylphs are. I would say "embrace the differences", but your Hunting Log says to squish a few instead.Long live the log!
If you're a leatherworker, Boar Hide does not drop from the Wild Hoglet. You'll want the Wild Boars for that purpose. However, if you're clearing the Lancer log, then you're in the right place. Or you will be in a moment! As the name suggests, these are smaller/younger versions of the larger boars. These are found North of the Honey Yard, with a couple near a tunnel to the Bramble Patch.
This weevil is particularly uninteresting as I tweeted earlyish in my FFXIV life. Oh! It's the other meaning of 'boring', I see. The Boring Weevil critters are found not far West from The Hawthorn Hut, usually mixed in with other animals or birds. If you look behind and West of Josselin's Spire, you'll come across a few. Some Boring Weevils are near the Arbor Buzzards, while others are in and around the Faerie Funguar area.
I hope you're not carrying Mun-Tuy beans, because a Lemur may look sweet but it will throw stuff at you if you threaten it. Lemurs seem to occupy a line between the main part of the Nine Ivies and the South-Eastern area. A line seems the perfect Lancer practice testing-ground to me!
Region/Area
East Shroud: Nine Ivies (South East of the Hawthorn Hut)
The Faerie Funguar are off-shoots of (or ancestors of?) the Forest Funguar and are just as freaky. Honestly, there's nothing nice and Fae about them! As with their kin, you can often see them "walking", shuffling or creeping around.
I'm Just a Toadstool, Honest!
Half of the time, Funguars pretend they're just everyday, ordinary toadstools. You know better. Hopefully.
Finding Faerie Funguar
There's no named location on the map, but if you head South-East they can be found where 'Nine Ivies' is written and a bit further South.
Poaching is one of the many troubles encountered by those guarding the Twelveswood. Sometimes natural balance needs restoring, but purposeful theft and killing is definitely not fine. Seek out Boar Poachers in the East Shroud to stop them. These masked Miqo'te are the archers in the group hanging around the rock at about X:19.7, Y:30.1. Send them packing.
The first time I came across the Giant Gnats they genuinely freaked me out. Even now I can't actually look at it when I have to fight one! These 'gnats' are related to the Ked and given they're about the same height as my Miqo'te (possibly taller), the word 'giant' is really an understatement.
They're found just east of the Aethyrite with one or two being around that entrance to the Bramble Patch.
If ever there was a pest worthy of being culled in the Twelveswood it's this one. I'd say "knock yourself out", but it's them who need hitting. Hard.
The Ziz Gorlin precedes the original Ziz in level, though that one appears in Archer Hunting Log Rank 3. The ones you, brave Lancer, require hang around Little Solace in the East Shroud. Protect the Sylphs by taking out three of them as a warning to the others. At least, you hope it's received that way! There are two "clusters" of Gorlins. So, if another player is hacking at one of them, go clear the other one instead.
The Bramble Patch in the East Shroud is home to a number of different enemies, one of which is the Black Bat. They would not be so freaky if they did not have the glowing eyes! But they do.
There are loads of Black Bats for you here, too, so you don't have to compete with other players for them. By that I mean, don't fight other players for a dead bat or two, okay?
Qiqirn Beaters have taken up residence in the run-down shack at Buscarron's Scar. If I remember right, the MSQ brings you out to this location anyway while trying to solve a particular mystery. There are way more than the three you need for your Hunting Log, so don't take more than that out - other players may also need them at the same time as you.
Antelope Does are really gentle and sweet-looking. When I was doing the photoshoot for the Hunting Logs, I even noticed that they had a sort of smile going on. It's a shame you're not given a reason these creatures have to be killed, especially in the Twelveswood. "Balancing nature" is about the only excuse I could think of. The group in the nearby map is out towards Buscarron's Scar, heading towards the Central Shroud exit.
More Antelope Does
There is another group of Does South of Buscarron's. I've included another mini-map for you. One dot may be one or two Does, also.
TL;DR Want to build a home in the East Shroud during the Lancer Hunting Log Rank 2?
You may as well have at least a semi-permanent camp out there! Thankfully, The Hawthorn Hut is very central to the southern part of the East Shroud, which makes it a perfect teleportation location. If you’re new to Final Fantasy 14, do remember to attuned to the Aethyrite there. Hopefully, this guide to the Lancer Hunting Log Rank 2 was useful. My Log 3 is underway, which leads you to Level 30 where becoming a Dragoon happens. Remember: don’t compete with other players for Hunting Log entries and enjoy your time in FF14!
I have been playing MMOs for about ten years and began writing guides to The Lord of the Rings Online in 2017. I've only been creating content about Final Fantasy XIV since 2022, but I am glad for the mix. My current games include LOTRO, FFXIV and the occasional Palia session too.
