Welcome to the FFXIV Marauder Hunting Log Rank 5 Guide – the last one for this class! Well done on getting to this point. If you’re clearing these logs while also working on the MSQ of A Realm Reborn, then the focus on Garlean forces and strongholds makes sense here. Some of your targets have crossovers with MSQ quests too. Let’s unravel this together, Warrior of Light.
When Can I Start Rank 5?
Once:
- You have cleared the Marauder Hunting Log Rank 4, and
- You are at least Level 40 as a Marauder or Warrior.
All your targets can be found below – I do have a weird sense of humour so bear with me if my write-ups are a bit strange at times. But I figured, I am not a database, and you’re not a machine. So I’ve tried to make them more than just map coordinates. Anyhow, let’s get going.
Molted Ziz
Number Required: 5
You will have no doubt seen various creatures like the Molted Ziz already. This includes the otherwise nondescript… Ziz.
I had to brighten up the shot in Larkscall so you could, you know, see it!
Where are the Molted Ziz?
They’re in the first wide area of Larkscall, if you enter from Little Solace, anyway.
Region/Area
East Shroud: LarkscallNearest Aetheryte
East Shroud: The Hawthorn HutDead Man's Moan
Number Required: 3
The animated skeletons of drowned seamen. Nothing freaky about that, right? And by “drowned”, I mean literally, rather than just consumed by a love for Leviathan. They appear in so many different FFXIV Hunting Logs that it’s just too difficult to try and write a unique intro to an enemy I’d rather not look at!
Dead Man’s Moan Location
On the Isles of Umbra, head towards the beach, or just into the water at the Ship Graveyard. But you only need do this if the FATE mentioned below is not on.
Involved in FATE
Dead Man’s Rest (X: 16.6, Y: 31.6)
Region/Area
Western La Noscea: Isle of UmbraNearest Aetheryte
Western La Noscea: AleportMorbol
Number Required: 2
I hate these twisted “plantlife” abominations. It’s so bad that I still hate The Aurum Vale even now. Get out of the way of their bad breath AoEs, else you get multiple debuffs. Also, try to turn the Morbol away from your companion, which you should be fine with being a tanking Marauder or Warrior! Bear in mind, your feathered friend may struggle to heal itself and there’s no Choco-Esuna, unfortunately.
You may have to put it on DPS mode, actually, as healing mode puts the bird right by your side. In the line of fire. So switch its mode and make sure your Defiance state is on, so that you definitely take aggro.
Morbol Location
The Morbols are found in Larkscall in the East Shroud. For any other reason, keep away from here. I know taking on groups of mobs is a tank thing, but if you rush around aggroing loads of morbols it can still end badly for you.
Region/Area
East Shroud: LarkscallNearest Aetheryte
East Shroud: The Hawthorn HutQuartz Doblyn
Number Required: 5
You will have no problems finding a Quartz Doblyn once you know roughly where to look! The only other type of Coblyn I remember with “Doblyn” in the name is the Synthetic Doblyn. And given, apart from some textures and being made of a different type of stone, I don’t know what means these are not Coblyns.
Where to Find Quartz Doblyns
You’ll fine plenty of them in the Burning Wall area of Eastern Thanalan.
Involved in FATE
There are four FATEs involving this type of Doblyn, but only one takes place in Eastern Thanalan:
Region/Area
Eastern Thanalan: Burning WallNearest Aetheryte
Eastern Thanalan: Camp Drybone (not exactly near!)Crater Golem
Number Required: 1
The Crater Golem can be found underground in the Spriggan Dig – in their “crater” funnily enough. While the earlier Spriggans in this area are a much lower level than you, once you descend into crater, the levels jump to the 40s. There is nearly always one Crater Golem lumbering around down here, but sometimes two if memory serves. If you are vaguely on-level, expect the Spriggans to attack you also.
Region/Area
Central Shroud: The Standing CorsesNearest Aetheryte
New Gridania: Take the White Wolf Gate Aetheryte option.Wild Hog
Number Required: 5
Because there are obviously so many tame boars around the Shroud, you have to find a Wild Hog. Well, a few of them! The ones you’re after are significantly larger than Wild Hoglets and – thankfully – separate to them.
These ones are found in Urth’s Gift, which you can reach easily from Quarrymill – and there are many in this area. Admittedly, there are many other enemies too, so if you’re vaguely on-level, be warned!
Region/Area
South Shroud: Urth's GiftNearest Aetheryte
South Shroud: QuarrymillBiast
Number Required: 5
When I had to go get the location map and screenshot of this large Sundrake's cousin, I didn’t even have to look it up. Having run the Ixali Tribal Quests so many times and fetching Templeton yet another ruddy Biast claw, I went straight to them!
Where are the Biasts?
You’ll find them West of the Observatory in Coerthas, which actually makes Fallgourd Float the nearest Aetheryte. I’ve marked six already, but there are more if you go further West. So, don’t fight other players for them.
Region/Area
Coerthas Central Highlands: Boulder DownsNearest Aetheryte
North Shroud: Fallgourd Float5th Cohort Signifer
Number Required: 5
The 5th Cohort Signifer is a Thaumaturge-class Garlean soldier, as are all Signifers (e.g. 3rd Cohort Signifer) in the Empire.
5th Cohort Signifer Location
“…here’s a hint─it rhymes with Castrum Centri.”
Jessie
That quote will always stick with me! But it is, in fact, accurate in this case.
They are spread out a lot, however. And, on my run, I only spotted four.
Involved in MSQ
If you have not completed the MSQ quests Dressed for Conquest and Escape from Castrum Centri, then you may not need to purposefully hunt these Garleans down as they’re involved in those quests.
Region/Area
Mor Dhona: FogfensNearest Aetheryte
Mor Dhona: Revenant's TollIron Tortoise
Number Required: 2
As you run, ride or fly South from Little Ala Mhigo in Southern Thanalan you enter Zanr’ak. The first Tortoises you see are Bronze ones (around level 43s). You need to head deeper in until you reach Iron Tortoises, which are around Level 46 – and slightly larger than the bronze ones too. They do roam about a bit and seem to often be on their own – except in the FATE below, anyway.
Involved in FATE

While scouting for landscape Iron Tortoises I stumbled on this FATE. It seems there will be plenty of them for you here.
Region/Area
Southern Thanalan: Zanr'akNearest Aetheryte
Southern Thanalan: Little Ala MhigoSynthetic Doblyn
Number Required: 5
You know, every other Coblyn/Doblyn we’ve come across in the FFXIV Hunting Logs have been related to natural materials. Oddly, now we’re in a mine, we are faced with Synthetic Doblyns. The Crafty Kobolds using their alchemy to make their own Doblyn army perhaps?
While these Doblyns are found throughout U’ghomaro Mines, they are also quite spaced out. I’ve marked on the maplet all the ones I found today.
Region/Area
Outer La Noscea: U'ghomaro MinesNearest Aetheryte
Outer La Noscea: Camp OverlookWatchwolf
Number Required: 3
The Watchwolf is a vicious, but trained, type brought in to defend the Ixal – and attack their enemies. There’s nothing lovely and fuzzy about this one, unlike the Snow Wolf Pup. As with all wolves, be careful of its initial AoE attack and bleed damage it can inflict.
Watchwolf Location
The one I have provided here is in the North Shroud, within the Ixali Logging Grounds. The coordinates below relate to the entrance of the Logging Grounds, where there is one wolf. Most of the others are around the edges or on the log bridges inside.
Involved in FATE
Region/Area
North Shroud: Proud CreekNearest Aetheryte
North Shroud: Fallgourd FloatMilkroot Cluster
Number Required: 5
I’ve wanted to add Milkroot Cluster to my site for ages, mostly because people keep searching for it on my site. But the way my brain works means I had to do things in order. Finally I can add it!
The Sylphs love Milkroot, but the sources of them don’t take kindly to the – shall we say – “extraction process”. These “clusters” are just another form of Ochu. As always, with this type of enemy, be careful of their poison DoTs.
Where are Milkroot Clusters?
These are in the Sylphlands in the East Shroud. If you don’t have flight yet, it’s a long walk or ride to reach them. Once you encounter the Milkroot Saplings, the Clusters are just a bit further in.
Region/Area
East Shroud: SylphlandsNearest Aetheryte
East Shroud: The Hawthorn Hut4th Cohort Secutor
Number Required: 5
The 4th Cohort Secutor is a Pugilist-class Garlean soldier, wanting to tame us “Savages” with swift punches to the face. Because that’s how you show you’re not a “Savage”, right?
If you’re on the Marauder Hunting Log, show him that a swift axe to the face is more effective!
4th Cohort Secutor Location
You can find them at Cape Westwind in Western Thanalan. Yes, that place you have to travel ages to reach because the nearest Aetheryte is at Horizon! They guard the area with others in their division, such as the 4th Cohort Hoplomachus.
You may need to cycle around to get all five, especially if another player is around doing their MSQ or Hunting Log.
Region/Area
Western Thanalan: Cape WestwindNearest Aetheryte
Western Thanalan: Horizon2nd Cohort Laquearius
Number Required: 5
The problem with these Latin-derived names is making sure I spell them correctly! The FFXIV 2nd Cohort Laquearius is your opposite number when you’re clearing the Marauder Hunting Log Rank 5. But a fancy name doesn’t make him a Warrior, right?
2nd Cohort Laquearius Location
They can be found at Castrum Occidens in Eastern La Noscea. And when I say “at” the Castrum, I mean “all the way through it”.
The coordinates below relate to the one outside. Then see the map for specific locations inside.
I found one outside and three inside on my run. There may be more when you go there as it depends on who passed through before you.
Region/Area

Eastern La Noscea: WineportTotal EXP Available
Note, this excludes any EXP gained for defeating the individual enemies and bonuses due to Rested EXP.
TL;DR Finally Finish FFXIV Marauder Hunting Log Rank 5, Warrior!
And that wraps up the whole Marauder Hunting Log, well done! If you have other characters or classes, please do check out my other FFXIV Hunting Log Guides too. And if you’ve really just started your time in Final Fantasy 14, enjoy the story.
See you soon, FFXIV folks!
