- When Can I Start Hunting Log Rank 5?
Your Rogue Hunting Log Rank 4 is the first one you tackle as a Ninja. As cool as all those stealthy or flashy moves are, remember to keep up your basic training! With this log, you start in the hot, sunny locale of the Costa del Sol, and end up…in Coerthas. I know, I know, that’s not fair. So beat the cold by beating up enemies or slashing them, or summoning fire and lightning Ninja-style.
Let’s clear this penultimate log!
When Can I Started Rank 4?
When
- You have cleared Rogue Hunting Log 3, and
- Are at least Level 30 as a Rogue or Ninja.
Large Buffalo
Number Required: 3

Where are Large Buffalos?
Whatever their reason, you can locate these creatures really easily. They can be spotted along the North/South road that runs behind the Costa del Sol. And, most shockingly, they’re huge.
PS: None of the Buffalos count in the nearby FATE, Just a Matter of Rut.

Grass Raptor
Number Required: 3

In terms of the Rogue Hunting log, the Grass Raptor is the first of its type you’ve had to deal with. But don’t worry, for later in Rank 4 you’ll have the Velociraptor, huzzah.
Grass Raptor Location
There are two places in Eastern La Noscea to hunt for Grass Raptors. I’ve just gone for the zone closest to the Aetheryte at Wineport for the map. Just turn left out of the gates, head North and there they are!
The dots on the map are a tad more useful than one coordinate for this location. The second place to look is further South of Wineport – around X:16, Y:25

Colibri
Number Required: 2

The Colibri are beautiful, pink, toucan-like birds in Eastern La Noscea. But they can be aggressive and attack people at random. They’re also owned by a rather obnoxious rich Lalafell who likes to remind people that he’s rich.
Where are They?
Head North along the beach from the Costa del Sol and you’ll see some at beach-level before you hit Hidden Falls.
But there are just as many on the grassy bit above your head, than at sea-level. If other people are questing here, or also working on their Hunting Log, head up the hill then come back South.

Qiqirn Gullroaster
Number Required: 2

The Qiqirn don’t seem to go in for fancy titles and the Qiqirn Gullroaster joins the Eggdigger in that obviousness. Obviosity? Sizzling gull for lunch, anyone?
Where are Qiqirn Gullroasters?
They have a camp South-West of the Costa del Sol in Eastern La Noscea.
Also note, when the FATE Jewels of the Isle is up, the usually non-FATE Qiqirns become FATE-ones. Both count, so dearest Rogue (or Ninja), you’re not spoilt for choice.
Also involved in FATE
The other FATE you can find them in is Careless Whiskers.

Coeurl
Number Required: 1

Most Coeurl names in FFXIV are described in some way, for example the Jungle Coeurls. This one is not. Maybe this is like “the original” or something?
To make matters a little more complicated, where the variety you need is found, there are also Young ones that do not count for your Rogue Hunting Logs:
Where are Coeurls?
I’m sorry for having to use the name so many times in one description. It’s really hard to avoid it! Anyway, these kitties are in Outer La Noscea along the North Eastern edge. Some are standing and watching, as though they own everything below them.

Highland Condor
Number Required: 2

FFXIV sure love getting you to take down squawky birds! There are many birds like the Highland Condor (such as the Northern Vulture), but only this one counts for the Hunting Log Rank 4.
Where are the Condors?
If you head westward in Outer La Noscea towards the Floating City of Nym, hug the cliff edge on your left (literally if you wish!), you’ll find plenty if Condors. You only need two, though.

Basalt Golem
Number Required: 3

Whoopee, the Basalt Golem – more rocks animated by magicks for no other reason than to roam around looking menacing!
If you have other classes, you may have dealt with a Crater Golem already. In fact, the MSQ brings you face-to-face with a Golem really early on, so this isn’t new.
This type can be found around the Long Climb. If you’re on the grassy areas, you’ll need to hop down a level. Golem’s don’t like grass, apparently.

Velociraptor
Number Required: 4

For those of us still living with the nightmares of Jurassic Park 2, it’s nice to know FFXIV gives us a way to deal with Velociraptors. And turn them into food and armour!
Velociraptor Location
These are found along the path that runs West-to-East near Camp Overlook, heading towards the Floating City of Nym.
Having had to clear this at the same time as someone else (or they were collecting Culinarian ingredients/leathers) I can say the respawn timer is fine. Or go kill off another Hunting Log entry nearby then come back.

Feral Croc
Number Required: 2

Feral Crocs have really weird, empty eye sockets and an even stranger snappy mouth. Use your Rogue-Ninja skills to see as little of that gaping maw as possible!
Where the Croc are They?
They roam the area between Camp Dragonhead and the Obervatorium in Coerthas Central Highlands. While I have put some locations on the map here, there are likely more to be found too.

Highland Goobbue
Number Required: 2

Unlike other classes’ Hunting Logs, the Highland Goobbue is the only one of its type you have to deal with in your Rogue Hunting Log. You only need two, so you can make it quick.
Finding Highland Goobbues
Head to the Coerthas Central Highlands. The quickest way is to teleport to Camp Dragonhead and begin to head South. X:26.7, Y:19.6 is the first one you encounter.
Outside of the related FATEs they are well spaced out. So, on the off-chance you cross Goobbue-killing with another player, here’s a second map for you:

Redhorn Ogre
Number Required: 3

The Redhorn Ogre is a brute of a creature that is both physically strong and has fire-based ranged attacks. These are classified as Voidsent too, so they’re not natural inhabitants of Coerthas. Or anywhere else on your star, for that matter!
There are loads of them around Providence Point, so my main coordinates below are a vague figure. Except in the FATE below, they are spread apart. Either way, the map is your best guide, and there are more than the three you need!

Taurus
Number Required: 3

The hulking, sinister-looking Taurus inhabits the tunnel cave of The Ogre’s Belly in the Providence Point area of Coerthas. And it’s not the only Voidsent around there, either.
Where is the Taurus?
The Ogre’s Belly may look like a “loop” tunnel, but you can’t get in on the southern end at that point. If you’re on the snowy plain then enter the tunnel at the nothern end (around X:32.5, Y:12).
I believe that Witchdrop, where the Vodoriga are, connects to the Ogre’s Belly. So, you could also enter from the South at that point.

Bateleur
Number Required: 2

We have a Bateleur in our world is a medium-sized eagle, which I didn’t know before.
Sadly, the one in FFXIV certainly does not look like an Eagle. It’s squawky and flappy like many of the related species (e.g. Highland Condor and Sylphlands Condor).
Where are Bateleurs?
To find them, from Camp Dragonhead to Whitebrim Front. Once you pass Ishgard’s gate, you’re in their territory.

Chinchilla
Number Required: 2

The cute-but-deadly Chinchilla has various cousins including the Star Marmot and Deepvoid Deathmouse.
If I remember correctly, some Coerthans fear this white variant as they’ve been known to attack travellers. For all their fluff they have really sharp teeth. As someone who’s been bitten by a squirrel in real life, I can relate.
Where are Chinchillas?
They’re between Camp Dragonhead and Whitebrim Front in the Coerthas Central Highlands. They’re not difficult to spot, but they are also pretty well spaced out. Thankfully, you only need two so that’s not an issue really.

When Can I Start Hunting Log Rank 5?
Once:
- You have cleared Rank 4, and
- You are at least Level 40 as a Rogue or a Ninja.
TL;DR Cold Defeated, Ninja-style: Rogue Hunting Log Rank 4, Cleared!
Well, we’ve spent an awful lot of time in the snow and ice of Coerthas. “Awful” may describe it for you too, if you hate the cold and/or Ishgardians.
But you’ve cleared the Rogue Hunting Log Rank 4 and that just leaves one more for you to do! And, one more for me to do also, to tie up the whole Class Hunting Log series.
Until next time, have fun in Eorzea, Warriors of Light (and Darkness!).
