My First Cane
Before we do so, ensure that you pick up the class quest My First Cane from E-Sumi-Yan in Stillglade Fane. Why? Because the first three items on your Conjurer Hunting Log are the same as those from the quest. While there’s no rush to do anything in an MMO, sometimes it is good to be efficient, rather than repeating the same task.
With that out of the way we can now focus on your reason for being here, clearing your Rank 1 Log!
Little Ladybug (Black Shroud)
Number Required: 3
As these ladybirds (as we call them in the UK) share a name with their Thanalan counterpart, you’ll find these Little Ladybugs as soon as you leave Gridania, either into the Central or North Shroud. Ground Squirrels are mixed in with the Ladybugs. The primary information here is for the Central Shroud.
However, if you exit for the North Shroud, the Ladybugs and Ground Squirrels can be found:
- North Shroud: Treespeak
- Around: X:30.2, Y:25.5
- Nearest Aethyrite: New Gridania (take the Yellow Serpent Gate)

Little Ladybug (Black Shroud)Ground Squirrel
Number Required: 3
Ground Squirrels are mixed in with the Little Ladybugs and this is true for both the Central and North Shroud groups. These critters are so cute! I think the reason given for being asked to kill animals in the Twelveswood is something to do with a population explosion that can destabilise life in the forest. Blame the Calamity, it seems to be the easiest get-out clause when you start FFXIV.
Anyway, if you exit for the North Shroud, Ground Squirrels can be found:

Number Required: 3
Mitelings are spider-like critters with a gazillion eyes. As you progress through the Black Shroud, they only get bigger. Eventually you’ll end up taking on a huge one in the Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak dungeon during the MSQ. But for now, these “little” Mitelings are all you need to concern yourself with. As they are required for three different classes, they are also in plentiful supply.
Depending on characters in the area, finding your target of three could be as easy as this:

North Shroud: TreespeakNearest Aetheryte
New Gridania: take the Yellow Serpent GateChigoe
Number Required: 3
This is the first enemy in your log that is unique to you, dear Conjurer. You have the delight of hunting a Chigoe or three. Well, three. These disgusting blood-sucking insects are huge and they bounce and flutter around. The Black Shroud is also home to at least one other variety that I can think of. Anyway, better hurl some rocks and wind at a few of them to make the Elementals happy. It will, won’t it?
Alternative Chigoe Location
If other players are also clearing their hunting log or related quests, then there is an alternative location. And that is Spirithold, where you’ll also find Syrphid Swarms. Those will be Level 7, but you’re a healer, so that won’t be a challenge even for a fledgling Conjurer, right?

Central Shroud: Bentbranch or New GridaniaWater Sprite
Number Required: 3
Unless this hunting log is not your first, the Water Sprite will be your first encounter with the manifestations of the Elementals. Water Sprites are passive until attacked, as is true of all the Elementals around the landscape (excluding those in FATEs). Being aetherial, expect water-based magical ranged attacks.
Unsurprisingly, you’ll find Water Sprites on or near water. So check down the river in the Central Shroud. If you get the right spot you can easily see many sprites:

Number Required: 3
It seems ironic writing this right now. We’re in full-blown Midge season here in the Highlands and they hurt when they bite. So the best way of dealing with that is to keep away from them! But what am I doing here? Sending you off towards them! I can buy into Conjurers getting rid of a Midge Swarm with magicks – squishing them between rocks or blowing them away. The fact this appear in the Archer hunting log (before they get the arrows blessed by Wind) makes me smile.
Where are the Midge Swarms?
Your Hunting Log will say “Peacegarden”. While this is not inaccurate, it’s also not accurate enough. You need to head to The Hedgetree. There may be a swarm or two outside of that area as well as those within, depending on other players being around.

North Shroud: Fallgourd Float, or New GridaniaMicrochu
Number Required: 3
Microchu area vicious plants that can stab you with barbs, bite you with a sort-of mouth and give you poison damage. Don’t worry, this is a gentle introduction to Damage-over-Time, so you’ll be fine. It’s nothing you and your weapon can’t handle.
As with many enemies in FFXIV, the deeper into the story you go, the larger (and more vicious) related species are.
While I have provided the North Shroud information here, Microchu can also be found in the Central Shroud around X:29.5, Y:19.5.

Well, as if Midge Swarms weren’t enough, you now have to deal with Syrphid Swarms! You can find this type of suspiciously similar-looking insects near Spirithold. Here you can also find some Chigoes if you haven’t already finished that part of your Conjurer Hunting Log Rank 1.
If Conjurer is your first class, then following the MSQ will bring you to Spirithold. This means you don’t have to make two trips here unless you really want to.

Number Required: 3
This, and related birds, are hyper-aggressive, so don’t let their cute look fool you. The Northern Vulture is no exception to the rule. If you’re even vaguely within its level range it will attack you, where some other critters may not. Just steer clear of its AoE “Wing Cutter” and you’ll be okay though. And this is the last one of the Conjurer Hunting Log Rank 1 too, so well done!
Location Coordinates
The Northern Vultures can be found on the North/South “line” from X:14, Y:25 to X:14, Y:27. Most of them are found either side of the path.

TL;DR Flex Your Brain Muscle for your Conjurer Hunting Log
So there you have it, you’ve defeated thirty creatures to maintain balance and stability in the Twelveswood. By clearing your Conjurer Hunting Log Rank 1, you’ll have also got into the swing of solo combat despite being a healing class.
