When Can I Start Rank 5?
When you
- Have Cleared Archer Rank 4
- Are at least Level 40 as an Archer or Bard
Hippocerf
Number Required: 5

Hippocerf Location
You can find Hippocerfs as you head towards Snowcloak (South-West) away from Whitebrim Front.
Region/Area
Coerthas Central Highlands: Whitebrim/Snowcloak
Nearest Aetheryte
Coerthas Central Highlands: Camp Dragonhead
Dragonfly
Number Required: 5

Man, I love a play on words. The Dragonfly is definitely more dragon than fly, but FFXIV have given it similar style wings to the ones we know in our world. You’ll find Dragonflies North of Whitebrim Front heading towards the Stone Vigil dungeon.

Dead Man’s Moan
Number Required: 5

The animated skeletons of drowned seamen. Nothing freaky about that, right? And by “drowned”, I mean literally, rather than just consumed by a love for Leviathan.
Dead Man’s Moan Location
On the Isles of Umbra, head towards the beach, or just into the water at the Ship Graveyard. But you only need do this if the FATE mentioned below is not on.

Lammergeyer
Number Required: 2

These annoying birds come in various shapes and sizes in Eorzea and they’re always hyper-aggressive. Thankfully they’ve been (somehow) boxed into a corner of the Isles of Umbra. Not that I’m complaining!
Lammergeyer Location
Head South through the crevice before turning West (or right, if you’re facing South). Make your way around the bend and voilà! A whole herd of Lammergeyers! Flock…I meant flock.

Morbol
Number Required: 2

These monstrocities are probably my worst kind of landscape mob. It’s so bad that I still hate The Aurum Vale even now. Get out of the way of their bad breath AoEs, else you get multiple debuffs. I’m not sure setting the Choco to heals stops them dying from it, and as an Archer or Bard you may find it difficult to keep the Morbol’s attention. Keep the Chocobo on DPS: on heals they stand with you, and tank will turn the ugly plant towards it!
Morbol Location
The Morbols are found in Larkscall in the East Shroud. For any other reason, keep away from here. The challenge is not aggroing multiple Morbols…ew.

East Shroud: Larkscall
Nearest Aetheryte
East Shroud: The Hawthorn Hut
Old-growth Treant
Number Required: 2

These enormous wandering guardian trees are pretty hard to miss. Of course, reaching them without aggroing all the other nasties in the area is a totally different thing! This is especially true of Archers who like to run around a lot. This is fine if you’re 10 levels over or so, but otherwise, just be aware of your surroundings as you fire arrows off!
Old-growth Treant Location
From the Hawthorn Hut, head through Little Solace into Larkscall. Once you’re properly in there, the Treants are easy to find.
Example Locations:
- X:26.8, Y:21.7
- X:28.1, Y:21.2
- X:27.1, Y:21.7
- X:25.7, Y:20.6 (×2)
- X:28.3, Y:21.2

Mudpuppy
Number Required: 5

Think of mud. Now think of a puppy. What you’ve got here is nothing like what you just imagined! These slimy critters share attacks from similar Eft-like enemies such as the Salamander. Just be aware that it does throw distance AoEs so do the brave thing and run away from them. Or strike from closer initially.
Mudpuppy Location
Head out the South-Western exit of Revenant’s Toll and past the camp of the same name. Hug the hills on the right (literally if that’s your thing) and you’ll find mudpuppies. Some also roam close to the water at The Tangle.

Lesser Kalong
Number Required: 5

On the way to Urth’s Gift you pass through a natural tunnel and it is from here that you will find the Lesser Kalongs. These bats are not solely in the tunnel, but you can find them deeper into Urth’s Gift too. They are non-aggressive by default, but that’ll change once you attack them, of course. You’d do the same if you were a Lesser Kalong.

5th Cohort Secutor
Number Required: 2

As the 5th Cohort Secutor is based in Mor Dhona, you’d think it was obvious where you would find them. Castrum Centri – correct! What is not so obvious is what a pain in the backside they are to find! I may have timed my search badly, but as you’ll see from the map, they are sparsely distributed around the Castrum.
If you’re on your first run of the MSQ, however, you may want to hold off purposefully hunting these down. This is because they appear in two different MSQ-related quests.

Giant Reader
Number Required: 2

Just when you thought you’d put the frozen climes of Coerthas behind you for now, up pops a Giant Reader. While other giants here, the Giant Logger and Giant Lugger can be identified by their weapons, the Reader stands out for not having one.
If you’re here for the Archer Hunting Log, you only need two. This is good, as I could only find three in the Boulder Downs. If other players are hunting here, maybe check the FATEs.

Hippogryph
Number Required: 2

Unlike some hunting log entries where it’s difficult to find enough targets, you’ll not have that issue with the Hippogryph. Just head to the North-West “bend” of the Singing Shards and you’ll find plenty. While there is one near the yellow, levin-infused lower level, all the rest of the Hippogryphs are on the upper level.

Tempered Gladiator
Number Required: 2

The Tempered Gladiator only appears in one hunting log, Archer Rank 5. They are also not difficult to find given that they congregate with Tempered Orators in the so-called “Circle of the Tempered”. This is found in the North-Eastern corner of Zanr’ak, just North of the entrance to Zahar’ak.

Sylphlands Condor
Number Required: 5

Not to belittle your intelligence, Warrior of Light, but where do you think a Sylphlands Condor may be found? Okay, you got that right! Thankfully, actually finding them is also ridiculously easy. They’re similar-looking to the Lammergeyer, which you may already have checked off your hunting log. Head into the Sylphlands from Larkscall and they’re in the northernmost point of the first huge area.
My advice for Archers is to snipe them from a distance, as there are other enemies around here too.

Milkroot Sapling
Number Required: 5

I could have sworn that Milkroot Sapling was on more than one Hunting Log, but apparently I would have been wrong. The “saplings” are actually more like Kedtraps, which does, at least, help you see them in the murk of the Sylphlands.
If you haven’t finished the A Realm Reborn MSQ yet, it may be easier to wait until you have. Flying to Milkroot Saplings is much easier than the long trek through the Sylphlands to reach them.

Ahriman
Number Required: 5

Just when you thought you’d seen enough when you encountered Floating Eyes at Haukke Manor, up pops the Ahriman. Or down it flutters. No matter its flight method, it’s still a giant eyeball with teeth, claws, wings and arms and legs. And there really is no need to blink before killing a bunch of these.

Shelfeye Reaver
Number Required: 5

The first thing to say about the Shelfeye Reaver is to completely ignore the icon in your Hunting Log. That implies they are Marauders, when they are, in fact Archers. The more of these FFXIV Hunting Logs I do, the more it seems that the very final Hunting Log entry for a class is your opposite number!
Now, the map here shows where I found the Reavers when Watch Your Tongue is not on. However, that FATE is almost always on – or so it seems. I only found four non-FATE Reavers and you require five. If the FATE is not active, just wait for one to respawn – you won’t be waiting long.

Note, this excludes any EXP gained for defeating the individual enemies.
TL;DR Congratuations for Completeing the Archer Hunting Log Rank 5!
And, my dear Bard, you are now done! With the Archer Hunting Log Rank 5 completed, there are no more class-specific enemies for you. If you’ve enjoyed hunting things down like this, consider joining The Hunt with your Grand Company. The Relic questline for A Realm Reborn also has similar foe-sniping as part of the process. Thanks for bearing with me as I rolled these Archer logs out. It’s time for me to switch class too. Have fun in FFXIV, folks!
