You do not need to quest long in Before the Shadow to know that difficulty and dangers lurk in the picturesque surrounding landscape. The Perils of Swanfleet Deed sees you going from North to South and West to East discovering new locations where peace once reigned. From ruffians to Wargs and from turtles to Uruk-hai, this deed is really varied and interesting. In this guide, I’ve given you a visual for each location, its coordinates and an overall map. Enjoy!
Perils of Swanfleet Locations
As you’re ticking off all these dangerous locations, it is often not always necessary to reach the specific map coordinates. Once you see the on-screen prompt of “You have discovered (Place Name)” then you’ve progressed the deed.
Bloodhollow
Coordinates: 56.8S, 21.6W
Bloodhollow sits South of Caras Gelebren and East-ish of Lhan Garan.
It is a den of Wargs and most people avoid it. Except you to complete the Perils of Swanfleet Deed and the Dunlendings of Lhan Garan to prove their strength as warriors.
Caras Gelebren
Coordinates: 54.2S, 21.6W
Central to the history of Swanfleet – and the Skirmish based here – Caras Gelebren is the ruin of a once-proud Elven centre of learning. The Doom of Caras Gelebren is the new Skirmish in Before the Shadow, which tells a bit of the history. We may learn more through the expansion when it launches.
Cobshollow
Coordinates: 65.6S, 26.4W
The little wooded corner of Cobshollow is now overrun with spiders. It can be found over the stream that runs East from Clegur and up the hill somewhat.
There are lootable cocoons here instead of wooden boxes. There is no spider-slayer deed in Swanfleet, so when side-quests bring you here, get out as soon as you’re done!

Bloodhollow | Caras Gelebren | Cobshollow | Howlingstones | Radlaw | Sharmokal | Tham Celechir | Tham Lasgol | Gwâl Cruban | Fangsettle
Howlingstones
Coordinates: 61.5S, 33.4W
The Howlingstones is the closest of the landmarks to Mossward.
The mostly ruined tower is now the home of wolves. A few quests bring you here, including one about tracking a Warg.
Radlaw
Coordinates: 59.6S, 29.6W
Radlaw is not just a brigand camp, but a fenced-off stronghold. It apparently appeared really quickly which meant the Stoors suddenly had a reason not to feel safe anymore.
It seems only fair that you should visit the place and make the ruffians feel less safe in their camp.
Sharmokal
Coordinates: 60.2S, 22.2W
Sharmokal is an Uruk-hai war-camp. They’ve even brought siege weapons along for fun too. You might find a side-quest to assist in dismantling them too, maybe.
Though, as there is an Uruk-slayer deed, it’s very considerate for the Enemy to have put so many Uruk-hai in one place.
Quick Skip
Bloodhollow | Caras Gelebren | Cobshollow | Howlingstones | Radlaw | Sharmokal | Tham Celechir | Tham Lasgol | Gwâl Cruban | Fangsettle
Tham Celechir
Coordinates: 45.5S, 19.3W
Tham Celechir is the most eastern location for the Perils of Swanfleet Deed. It is most easily reached via the obvious pathway through Idhobel.
While some Elven ruins in Swanfleet have been reclaimed by nature, this one is inhabited by orcs. Expect a “welcome party” if you wish to visit.
Tham Lasgol
Coordinates: 48.8S, 24.0W
In case you hadn’t yet picked it up, you’ll notice that Elven ruins feature prominantly in both quests and deeds in Swanfleet. Run the new Doom of Caras Gelebren skirmish to find out why.
Tham Lasgol has been mostly reclaimed by nature – and Wood-trolls. It also sits below and atop a cliff edge in the middle of the Western Eregion area of Swanfleet. You can map it from above or below.
Gwâl Cruban
Coordinates: 51.9S, 26.0W
If you think Elves fear nothing, wait until you have a quest from one to go hunt the “dread turtles”. Most of the turtles here are not difficult to defeat on-level. However, Stoneback, part of the Trophy-hunter Deed does roam around here.
Gwâl Cruban is yet another Elven ruin left to Nature and can be found on one of the first islands South of Western Eregion.

Fangsettle
Coordinates: 54.4S, 30.2W
While Fangsettle is on an island or two in Wadewater, it is only a little West of Lhan Garan.
Fangsettle is the home – and nesting ground – of the poisonous Avanc. If you’re levelling through Swanfleet, then be cautious around here.

TL;DR Map the Perils of Swanfleet and Drive Out the Enemy!
The Perils of Swanfleet really does give you a detailed look at all the dangers facing its people. As there are Many Folk of the Glanduin, their difficulties and dangers are equally varied, if not moreso. This deed also gives you a glimpse into the land that once was. Couple this deed with the Skirmish and you’ll begin to understand more. I hope this deed guide was useful for you. As always, whatever you do, stop-and-stare at the world LOTRO have created for you, and enjoy your time in Middle-Earth!
