Considering how infrequently my characters wear gloves...in any game for that matter, I'm not the best person to ask about them. However, the Gloves of Illumination from the LOTRO Anniversary Event leave me divided.
Gloves of Illumination Description
On the one hand (pun not intended, but I'm leaving it in!), they're roughly sewn together, a bit like portions of the Cap of Illumination. This look could suit a ragged or well-worn adventurer or Ranger, but I wouldn't use them in a carefully-designed outfit.
But on the other hand, they're fingerless - mostly so, anyway. And that makes me want to use them, because I often wear compression gloves to help manage my hand pain caused by Fibromyalgia.
Do They Dye?
Only the stitching (which you can see from the thumb to the wrist), takes the dye colour. Not the main material.
Random RP Insight
Glinmaethor doesn't wear gloves or gauntlets usually. Occasionally, if more protection is needed. But she prefers to be able to feel her sword's metal against her fingers to more finely adjust her technique.
Fingerless gloves offer a combination of both.
