The FFXIV Starlight Celebration event gets us in the festive mood, while bringing cheer and hope as only a Warrior of Light can!
Each year brings us a different story; from bringing smiles to children’s faces and conducting a choir, to teaching a gil-driven Lalafell to value people over coin.
Here’s my guide to all the rewards available during Starlight 2022 and I include a mostly spoiler-free synopsis of the story as well. So let’s take a look at what’s awaiting you at FF14’s Winter event!
FF14 Starlight Celebration Dates
This years event runs:
- From 15th December 2022 at 8am GMT (UK Time)
- Until 31st December 2022 at 14:59 GMT (UK Time)

Don’t Forget the Moogle Event
There is also the Moogle Tomestone Event going on. But put aside your grind for an hour or so and enjoy Starlight!
Who Can Take Part?
Any character who is at least Level 15,
The event begins in Gridania. If you are new to FFXIV and started in Limsa Lominsa or Ul’dah, you will have to complete the 
MSQ up to a certain point. The relevant quests are
That will give you airship access and let you travel to Gridania for the Starlight Celebration!
How to Get Started
Head to Old Gridania
Use an Aetheryte Shard to take you to Mih Khetto’s Ampitheatre. Or if this is your first visit to the Black Shroud, walk or run to Old Gridania.
Speak to Amh Garanjy

Then you can pick up the quest Reindeer Fame.

Apart from the resident Miqo’te (not mine), the main characters are Laurenssen and reindeer Blitzen.
(Mostly) Spoiler-free Synopsis
Here’s a brief overview of the first half of the story – Reindeer Fame. However, the subsequent quest, The Ghost of Starlight Present is where the story is really leading so I won’t give any spoilers about that at all!
Reindeer Fame
Laurenssen is a researcher from Sharlayan, who is investigating whether the reindeer, Blitzen can create magical illusions as his ancestors did.
His road of discovery has led him to Gridania and Starlight.
To that end, he wants to put on a show for the children and asks you to go and round some up.
Their locations are on the map, which is to the right, or below, depending on the size of your screen.
Click/tap the map to see all three children’s positions.
The Ghost of Starlight Present
Once you have concluded Reindeer Fame, the story continues in The Ghost of Starlight Present.
It is on completing this that you are rewarded with your Starlight Steed!
Spreading Starlight Cheer (Optional)
What isn’t clear (at least it wasn’t to me), is there is no indicator over Laurenssen’s head.
That’s because it’s not a “quest”. You can just speak to him and choose a location to visit. It’s done via a cutscene, so there’s no running around to do.
Each scene includes a different child you’re spreading seasonal joy (and Reindeer illusions) to.
Starlight Celebration Rewards
As I’m drafting this prior to the event actually starting, I’ve had to use the screenshots from the official page
. I will replace them with my own once I have run the Starlight event.
Starlight Steed
Starlight Steed
Apparently, the Starlight Steed Horn “produces a heartwarming sound”. It’s just the “hmmmm” we make when calling all other mounts other than our Chocobo!
So long as you make your own “heartwarming sound” it’ll be fine!
Special Effect
Blitzen recreates his magicks – the illusions of sparkles and gifts!
Note: You will need your own combat effects set to “Full” to see this animation. This can be found in character settings.

Illuminated Tree

This is an outdoor furnishing – unsurprisingly!
I personally only have an apartment, but my Free Company has a garden, so I popped mine into theirs for this shot!
How Do I Get the Illuminated Tree?
Just outside of the Ampitheatre’s gate is a wee Lalafell behind a desk. Look for the shining reindeer antlers.
She’s called “Starlight Supplier”. Part of the “Supplier” family, probably Ul’dahn.
The decoration costs 
5,000. She’s definitely Ul’dahn!
Magicked Prisms
You can also acquire stacks of ten magicked prisms from the same vendor. These are just static images, but you can click/tap to open up larger ones. Hopefully it gives you enough flavour to decide whether you want to spend Gil or not.

Yes, the Moogle Tomestone Event is going on too. But c’mon, we get a festive deer mount and a beautiful tree decoration. So set aside getting things for yourselves, and go spread some cheer to others – which gives you things for yourselves! Oh, the irony of gaming.
