It seems each year is a case of “blink and it’s All Saints Wake and Starlight”! And so, here we are about to get spooked out on another creepy season in FFXIV. And, if the teaser imagery is anything to go by, our favourite imp-come-clownboy makes a return. But, most surprisingly, his dear Succubus appears to be keeping her distance for once!
Here’s my guide to the event. Enjoy!
When Is All Saints Wake?
- It starts at 1am PDT (8am GMT) on Friday, October 27th 2023.
- It ends at 6:59am PDT (1:59pm GMT) on Monday, November 13th 2023
Who Can Take Part?
All characters who are Level 15.
For those who have not started in Gridania, you will need to have your related “Envoy quest” either active, or completed. This is so you can travel to Gridania for the event.
How To Get Started
Get Eligible!
If you’re not Level 15 and/or have not done your “Envoy” quests, then get to it.
Unless you started in Gridania, then you just have to be Level 15. Lucky you. Or not, depending on how All Saints curses, “blesses” you!
Head to Gridania
Specifically, Old Gridania and to outside the gate of the Mih Khetto’s Ampitheatre.
Pick up the quest called The Fright Stuff.
Get talking to the Adventurers’ Guild Investigator and see what this year’s spooky story says.
Meet the Great Gourd
Go see the Great Gourd to continue the story!
You can read a summary either below, or on the “Story” tab. But if you want to skip it then click/tap Skip ↓
2023 All Saints’ Wake Story
For those of you who were around for this FFXIV Halloween event a couple of years ago, you will recognise Papa Gruff.
He was reprimanded for trying to cause havoc one year and the Great Gourd brought him to heel.
Well that same voidsent is back this year but is trying to make scaring people enjoyable – not just for himself, but for those he is scaring. Only he’s not that great at it!
Enter…You.
You have to walk with him and advise him on the kind of scaring that might do the trick…pun intended. Don’t worry, the story prevents you from making the “wrong” decision and tormenting a child for the rest of their life!
After that, he goes about with you, but making the decisions himself. In short, becoming the kind that “scares to tickle”.
Until you both come across a freaked-out botanist who claims to have seen something genuinely scary, and daren’t go back.
The Voidsents’ Plot
I won’t spoil the rest, though. Things get a bit weird. But there are some really lovely moments. It is totally worth doing. A few times!
Rewards
This year, it seems like FFXIV are encouraging us to play pranks on other players. To those who were around for the 2022 event, you were able to transform yourself into well-known FFXIV NPCs. Well, this year, we get to pay it forward.
Though I do kinda get a sort-of “Hogwarts Vibe” from the official imagery put out by Square Enix. Anyway, here are the rewards:
Emote: All Saints’ Charm
If you want to, you can see the All Saints’ Charm Emote on my YouTube Channel.
How to Get /allsaintscharm
This emote is the reward for completing the The Fright Stuff.
Emote Info
I’ve given more detail on the YouTube write-up, but this one doesn’t do any transforming, per se. It is a neat effect, though and you can cast it onto people, NPCs, minions… apparently, anything!
If you find a selectable item that it does not work on, let me know!
The full emote effect does not appear to work in gpose, regardless of the target.
Deco: Wall-mounted Vampire Bats
How to Get This
It costs 2,000 from the Bespectacled Peddler. She is just inside the gate of Mih Khetto’s Ampitheatre.
Older Items
As ever, there is the “small print” about older items being available from previous All Saints’ Wake events. Sorry, certain items.
Unless you can go back in time, which of course you couldn’t. Well, maybe not. It is your character attending the event, after all!
Where to Get Older Items
Oh yes, you get them from the Bespectacled Peddler.
You can also recover items from events you have attended in the past in case you’ve lost them. These are available for 1,000 / item from the Recompense Officer. What an inspirating job title for “Lost Property”.
Does the character have had to exist in prior years, or definitely have completed the event before?
Other All Saints Wake Features
With a new emote, FFXIV have brought back some things to encourage you to take those screenshots to share the “joy” of the season.
Or something.
The Haunted Manor
While there’s no dungeon/duty here (as far as I know), you will be allowed into the Haunted Manor.
It might look like Haukke Manor, but it’s decidedly less creepy. Or maybe not less creepy, but less overtly evil.
Maybe.
The Phantom’s Feast
Despite this being advertised on the official pages, I could not see how to enter this. Please do let me know if you figure it out!
I only vaguely recall this one, despite it being only two years ago. But this is a dungeon-like duty.
Designed for 4 players of at least Level 1, we need to save souls and stop Papa Gruff with whatever the ritual was two years ago. In short, I’ll be playing it like I’m new!
It awarded Pumpkin Cookies in 2021, so I don’t know what you’ll be able to get for them this time around. Not a real Pumpkin Cookie I’ll bet.
You can see the duty information and a video of it on GamerEscape.
TL;DR Get Ready for Spellcasting at the FFXIV All Saints’ Wake 2023
While I’m not a fan of Hallowe’en, per se, FFXIV do manage to make the story around it very much worth doing. And the emote does look fun and quirky.
A lot of players seem to rock up to All Saints Wake, so come and enjoy the fun, FFXIV friends.
