LOTRO Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir

LOTRO How to start the Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir Missions

The Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir are the latest addition to LOTRO’s Further Adventures missions. While the previous ones focussed on the famous Bilbo Baggins, these follow the two sons of Elrond Halfelven on a journey from Rivendell to the Golden Wood of Lothlórien. And for quite a short series, the story has a few twists and turns too. So, here in the first of two parts, I’ll walk you through how to get started on these missions, what to expect and other notes to help you along the way!

Gaining Access

The first port of call is first asking if you have access to this content or not. If you’re VIP (subscriber) status, then great – you have free access while you’re subscribed.

If you are not VIP, then you can purchase the Missions from the LOTRO Store for LOTRO Points 295 LOTRO Points.

Purchase With Earned LP

Before you run away and decide you can’t afford to do that, remember that you can earn LOTRO Points by completing LOTRO Deeds. Not all deeds grant LP, but many do.

How to Start the Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir

Okay, so you are either a VIP or you have acquired the Missions some other way. How do you get started?

Travel to Rivendell
Part of Rivendell as depicted in LOTRO
If you have not reached Imladris through your quests yet, you’ll be pleased to know Rivendell is well-connected. Various stablemasters can bring you directly here. If you’ve never been before, though, you may need to use 1 Mithril Coin rather than other coinage.
Go Speak to Elrond
Speakt to Elrond to begin the Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir
If you’re new-ish to LOTRO, once you enter the Last Homely House, take the right “ramp” upstairs, then turn almost 180° to follow the hallway. The door to Elrond’s Library is on the left and he is downstairs in that library.
Pick up the Quest
Speak to Elladan outside Elrond's Library
Grab the relevant Further Adventures quest from Elrond, then head out of the Library to speak with Elladan.

Congratulations, you’ve now started the quest-chain!

Level Notes

As the quests are carried out like other LOTRO Missions, each one is synced/scaled to your level. However, the journey may takes you into regions that are above yours. From what I can make out from my first run, the NPC spawn locations should be safe. But if you’re not within the level ranges below (and roughly geared that way, too), I’d suggest you don’t stray far from the stop-off points!

When the Story Takes Place

As the core of the Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir is investigating a missing Nazgûl around the Bruinen, it happens at a distict point in time. In LOTRO terms, it is before Book 4, Chapter 1: Where is the Horse and the Rider?External Link (Opens in New Window/Tab). And from a LOTR lore perspective, it is after Elrond commanded the Bruinen to sweep away the Enemy, ensuring Frodo & Co had safe passage to Rivendell.

So, if you want to do things chronologically, then once you’ve completed Foreward: The Troubles of RivendellExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab), speak to Elrond to start the Further Adventures.

How the Elladan and Elrohir Missions Work

If you’ve not done any Further Adventures before, but have done LOTRO Missions, then there is one key difference. Most others have a missions NPC in the same location for every mission; but with Elladan and Elrohir’s story, you are “going on an adventure” with them! This set-up is what they should have done with the Further Adventures of Bilbo Baggins, to be honest.

Dialogue – Mission – New Location

At each stage you’ll have some dialogue, the same as any normal quest. You’ll then be ported in to your private Mission instance. And, once you’ve completed that mission, the sons of Elrond and yourself find yourself in a new location. Rinse and repeat.

So, for example, picking up the mission for chapter 2 ports you to Eregion. Once you’ve completed the Eregion mission, you are in that region on the landscape, not the Trollshaws.

How Many Missions are there for Elladan and Elrohir?

Five in total. They do not have interesting names either! They’re just in this format:

01. The Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir, Chapter 1

Truly inspired, if I may say so myself! It gets quite hard writing about a mission type, with a mission name that’s the same as most of the quest names – without boring you by repeating the two Elves’ names over and over!

What Happens After You Complete Chapter 5?

You will be pleased to know that you do not have to make your own way back to Rivendell. Once Chapter 5 has concluded, you will be automatically ported to the Last Homely House to let Elrond know how it went. In short you go There and Back Again.

Chapter 1

I am going to briefly cover how the first chapter of the Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir plays out. For those of you on large screens, any spoilers are in the “Story” tab. If you’re on a small screen and do not wish to accidentally see spoilers, skip to Further Adventures Rewards ↓ now.

Chapter 1 Overview

Pick up the quest and the Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir story from Elrond in Rivendell.
In the Last Homely House, Elrond decides he has a task that suits you. While the servants of the Enemy who tried to cross the Bruinen were carried downriver, it is uncertain whether the Nazgûl truly fell or not.

Scouts and his sons have been sent to investigate. But Elrond has also given Elladan and Elrohir their own mission too, which he refuses to tell you about. Except that it would be good for you to go and you’ll end up in Lothlórien. Sure, Elrond, I don’t mind walking in blind(folded), let’s do it!

Elladan spawns once you’ve moved around a little after being ported in.

It seems he and his brother are playing a Gimli-and-Legolas-esque competition on who can kill the most insects during their important mission!

Jump passed spoilers ↓

Story (and Spoilers)

Elladan comments that the insect swarms are greater than normal, but sees that as an opportunity to beat his brother at their little competition. Having you join him is not cheating, apparently!

Once you arrive at the Bruinen, however, the game is soon forgotten. Dead horses lay on the river bed, leaving you and Elladan to fight off disgusting critters in order to investigate them. When you find Elrohir, you also discover a cloak.

Examine the black cloak in the water.
But with only eight horses found, and the Nazgûl (Black Riders) number Nine, it is clear one has completely escaped. With his horse but without the cloak that gives him form. Chapter 1 ends with Elrohir concluding: “The answers escape us. For now.”

Chapter 1 Quest Rewards

The token rewards are a tad complicated so:

  • Tokens of Further Adventure × 2 (for the Quest)
  • Tokens of Further Adventure × 3 (for the Mission)
  • Tokens of Further Adventure × 1-3, from the Mission’s Chest
  • Legendary Item XP Legendary Item XP (if applicable)

This means you can earn 6-9 × Tokens of Further Adventure per chapter and 30-45 × Tokens of Further Adventure for the whole Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir story.

NB: I’ll be redoing these shortly, but if these numbers are incorrect please let me know!

Brothers’ Keeper Title Deed

Completing all five chapters for Elladan and Elrohir has a separate deed reward. As such, this is only available once per character, although the whole story is repeatable.

Deed Rewards

  • Tokens of Further Adventure × 30
  • Virtue XP +3,000
  • Title Brothers’ Keeper

Further Adventures Rewards

If you happen to have completed missions about Bilbo Baggins, then you will have been aware of Celeblír in Rivendell. He is the Tokens of Further Adventure Tokens of Further Adventure barterer both for Bilbo and for Elladan and Elrohir.

You can find more about him hereExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab) and Tokens of Further Adventure Tokens of Further Adventure hereExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab).

TL;DR Time to go on an Adventure with Elladan and Elrohir

So, there you go! You’ve begun your journey of discovery with the sons of Elrond. They are clearly investigating the Black Riders, but that seems to be only a part of their mission. As the following chapters unfold, you’ll discover more. But, I hope you’ll experience the Further Adventures of Elladan and Elrohir for yourself. Stories retold are great, but those lived through rather than recounted are remembered more.
