The Fallen Mage is not just one that's clumsy, or one that slipped across the line into evil. It's dead. Well, undead. And so are the other enemies nearby.
On that score, be careful if you're around Level 25-30. There are some tough enemies here that take ages to clear if you're not on a particular quest.
That's why I put dots on the minimap rather than circle the whole area. Try to avoid any undead that's not your target - especially if they have the red star-like symbol over their heads. See ConsoleGamesWiki
