Anarchy in Paradise - SWTOR KotFE: Chapter X

SWTOR: KotfE Chapter X - Anarchy in Paradise Press ReleaseI have to say it is with some relief that the release of Knights of the Fallen Empire, Chapter X Anarchy in Paradise has been formally announced. We already knew from the Upcoming SWTOR Subscriber Rewards session that it wouldn’t be until February, but the BioWare team were very careful not to give anything away about content – the thing many of us actually care about. Instead they focussed on getting 2-day early access, and much hype over the HK-55 Return.

So let’s pick apart the press release, because that’s what I do!

The Personal Outlander Story

The press release says that Anarchy in Paradise is the first in a series of 7 chapters that “build on the personal story of the Outlander”. That gives the impression that you have 7 chapters to ‘work out who you are’. As the whole point of Fallen Empire was continuous story, it seems safe to presume that after these 7 chapters, a new story line (or ‘arc’ as they are sometimes called) is likely to be developed. With the limited information, I have to say this is a fair assumption.

When Does Chapter X Come Out?

The official launch is 11th February 2016. I can’t find the proof, but I’m fairly sure that a subscriber reward was supposed to be gaining 2 day early access. So, subscribers should be able to get this from 9th. Not that this is said in the Press Release, so I’ll have to do some digging.

[Edit] Found it!

Players must have an active Subscription status to unlock 2 Days of Early Access for each Chapter.

So with the ‘official’ date being 11th February, subscribers should get access from 9th Feburary.

Kalyio aka “Firebrand”

I had to rewrite this section when I downloaded the concept art from the SWTOR Press Release – KaliyoConcept_854x480.jpg. It seems Anarchy in Paradise sees a Rattataki Mercenary “Firebrand”, aka Kalyio the trigger-happy, dirty fighter Imperial Agent companion – or so it seems at least.

From the artistic impression, demolisions seems to be her ‘thing’ and would fit her name, and her character if you got to know her pre-KotFE. But if you’re all for reformation of the Eternal Empire, or siezing the throne, you may not win her affection that easily.

Her mission is to destroy the Eternal Empire by attacking Zakuul and crushing the seat of power, the Eternal Throne, by any means necessary.

The question is, how far will you go? With Firebrand wanting to destroy Zakuul on one side, and Koth who wants Arcann removed, but treasures Valkorion and his home planet, where will your final allegiances lie?

A Game of Consequences

Thinking that your choices didn’t really matter when you arrived at Odessan? Well, think again.

Players will experience the grim consequences of their past decisions and feel the grip of the hand of fate on their dangerous journey.

At the end of Chapter 9 you get the following hints of the future:

  • The Force Ghost of Darth Marr says that ‘so many people will have to die’ to beat the Eternal Empire
  • Valkorion tells you that not everyone is behind you and thinks you can win the war. Who? “You will find out soon enough”.
  • If you listen to the forces in your Alliance Base, you can hear mutters of dissention, old divisions surfacing and a lack of contentment with gear.

As the chapter title says, the peaceful, safe world will soon become anything but safe. If nothing else, as I have characters who have made drastically different choices in Chapters 1-9 I am really intrigued to finally see some consequences. I just hope the ‘negative’ consequences don’t detract from the fun of the game – maybe I expect too much!

Teaser Video

Here’s the official Chapter X ‘teaser video’:

So, where is the Anarchy?

[Edit] Having thought about the title of Chapter X, I wonder whether it’s going to be as dramatic as the title implies. I’ve had to presume ‘Paradise’ is Odessan, our currently ‘safe’ base of operations. So initially I thought that Chapter X could be a discovery of our base by the Eternal Empire (because we don’t need a rest do we?) and be attacked – creating actual anarchy.

But with the revelation of “Firebrand” – aka Kalyio – being encountered in Chapter X, is it simply her that is the ‘Anarchy’? Throughout the Imperial Agent storyline Kalyio is referred to as an Anarchist – someone who has flagrant disregard for authority. I kind of want Chapter X to be dramatic, but maybe it’s simply a nod to Kalyio arriving at Odessan. What do you think?.

TL;DR Anarchy in Paradise

We are on the home run to Chapter X but plenty is hinted at and promised, including regaining HK-55. The hints on the story sound good and solid and I am looking forward to it. But I have to say, I’m with those players asking where their past romances, and Companions are – and why we have to wait so long to get some back or to airlock those we hated! At least we can finally take a break from grinding the Alliance Crate Heroic Missions!
