What Do You Need Factionless Quests in the Wildwood For?
There are two main reasons: the daily wrappers, and to complete deeds:
Faction Wrappers
Not “rappers”, I don’t know if Enid Nettlesting raps or not. Anyhow, the primary reason for doing factionless quests is for the daily wrappers. They state explicitely that they must not be for a faction – i.e. they do not grant reputation for either the League or the Brotherhood. These are the wrappers:
Quests in the Wildwood Deed
Each faction has their own deed to complete number of quests. But there is also a separate one that factionless quests qualify for. These count towards the “Quests in the Wildwood Deed”, which contributes to the “Quests of the Wildwood” Deed. Not at all confusing with those names there.
Where are Factionless Quests in the Wildwood?
Repeatable factionless quests can be found at these locations:
- (13) Auto-Bestowed throughout the wood.
- (4) Bounties boards (in Trestlebridge and at Trader’s Wharf).
- (9) Wildwood Bulletin boards (in Trestlebridge and at Trader’s Wharf)
- (10) Wildwood Missions (Trestlebridge only) when you approach a quest area.
There are also some non-repeatable factionless quests from Linnet Redholm at (22.1S,57.7W). With off-shoot quests, these total seven and start with Honourable Hunts and the Wildwood Hunt.
Auto-Bestowed Factionless Quests
Enemies Change
You'll notice a pattern at many of these locations: break stuff and defeat enemies. The reason the quest text is vague is because which enemies there are at any particular quest location change. I love this simple approach to variety LOTRO introduced here.
The following auto-bestowed quests are numbered 1-13 on the map.
1. The Delves: Destroying Supplies
Area: East-delf
Coordinates: 23.9S, 60.8W
Aim: Destroy 10 × supply crates at the East-delf and West-delf (23.9S, 61.8W). You will need to visit both.
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
2. The Delves: Foes of the Free People
Area: East-delf
Coordinates: 23.9S, 60.8W
Aim: Defeat 12 × foes at the East-delf and West-delf. They can be from either Delf or some from both.
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
3. Cotfast: Destroying Supplies
Triggers: Somewhere close to Cotfast – e.g. 20.0S, 57.0W
Aim: Destroy 10 × supply crates at the East-delf and West-delf. You will need to visit both.
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
4. Cotfast: Foes of the Free People
Triggers: Somewhere close to Cotfast – e.g. 20.0S, 57.0W
Aim: Defeat 12 × foes in Cotfast. If your mobs are not grey, you’ll not find this difficult. They will attack you while you find all their crates!
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
5. Overwine Hall: Foes of the Free People
Location: Overwine Hall (19.6S, 59.4)
Aim: Defeat 6 × foes Overwine Hall. You’ll find some of them up the steps.
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
6. Overwine Hall: Destroying Barricades
Location: Overwine Hall (19.6S, 59.4)
Aim: Destroy 6 × barricades at Overwine Hall.
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
7. Norwarden: Foes of the Free People
Location: Norwarden (18.4S, 55.4W)
Aim: Defeat 8 × foes at Norwarden
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
8. Norwarden: Destroying Barricades
Coordinates: Norwarden (18.4S, 55.4W)
Aim: Destroy 6 × barricades at Norwarden. There are two barricades at the top of the ladder here too – but there is also at least one enemy waiting for you up there. Unless you got lucky and followed another player, anyway!
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
9. Sutwarden: Foes of the Free People
Coordinates: Sutwarden around (23.4S, 56.2W)
Aim: Defeat 8 × foes at Sutwarden
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
10. Sutwarden: Destroying Barricades
Coordinates: around: 23.4, 56.2
Aim: Destroy 6 × barricades at Sutwarden. Definitely more than 6 barriers to destroy. Sutwarden has two levels.
There are two up the ladder in Norwarden.
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
11. Natsulm the Night-raider
He’s also really easy to confuse with Lhudblath the Silver Warg, if you have both quests active at the same time.
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
12. Gnawbone Pit: Devious Wargs
Aim: Defeat 6 × Wargs at Gnawbone Pit
13. Helva’s Edge: Good Hunting
Aim: Hunt Wild Game (× 6) at Helva’s Edge (may include Wolves)
Helva’s Edge is a lush, mostly tree-less part of the Wildwood, with a rather stunning view. As with other areas we’ve covered looking for factionless quests, the creatures around here change. In order to live from the Wildwood, it is important to hunt it sustainably. Hunt the creatures, but only take what you need.
As far as I can tell, all creatures that spawn here count towards the “Big Game” Deed in the Wildwood. That includes wolves, which aren’t all that big and definitely don’t play games.
14. Writhenset Mines (3 Quests)
Just a quick note to say I rediscovered 3 additional factionless quests when I had to go to Writhenset. In the mine are these quests, all of which are in the same vein as what you’ve already done elsewhere.
- Writhenset: Destroying Supplies
- Writhenset: Destroying Cocoons
- Writhenset: Foes of the Free People
Bounties
These four bounties are available from both the League of the Axe (Trader’s Wharf) and the Woodcutter’s Brotherhood (Trestlebridge) areas. As they are dailies, you cannot complete them for both factions on the same day.
Bounties are marked A – D on the map. Clearly, for once, these are actually “defeat” rather than “kill”. Or someone else takes on the name every single day. Who knows the ways of the Enemy?
A. Akvosh
Well then, have ya come to hunt the hunter? You can try, ya puny Woman!
Man, I love some of the things LOTRO put into dialogue from enemies!
The horn to summon Akvosh can be found inside the West-delf at 21.4S, 61.7W:
Your reward for defeating this Orc (for the umteenth time!) is:
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
Also, are those miniature “dark angel” wings on his shoulders?
B. Gethin Oxeye
You can find the summoning horn for Gethin Oxeye outside the East-delf (23.6S, 60.9W), in front of a small hut:
In case you hadn’t figured it yet but the reward for this quest is suspiciously similar to all the others!
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
C. Thunash
You can summon Thunash using the horn in Cotfast at 19.8S, 57.6W:
Bet you can’t guess?
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
D. Tansy Haresfoot
“I could have killed you already. Remember that.”
Delightful.
The summoning horn can be found at Sutwarden on the higher level at (23.5S, 56.0W):
I bet I’ve missed a quest that didn’t have the same rewards somewhere!
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
Wildwood Bulletin
The Bulletin is available from both the League of the Axe (Trader’s Wharf) and the Woodcutter’s Brotherhood (Trestlebridge) areas.
Reminder
These cannot be completed for both factions’ wrapper on the same day. Though you can, of course, split which ones you do for each wrapper.
One Storage Crate to Rule them All
Baiting the Traps
Aim: Bait 10 × Traps.
Trapping animals is part of the way of things in the Wildwood. While preserving nature is important – keeping species from overpopulating is too – as is being able to eat. Baiting the Traps assists in both these endeavours.
On more than one occasion I have forgotten to pick up the flippin’ bait. Try to learn from my mistakes, ha! Before you leave to start your Wildwood dailies – remember to collect the bait from the really obvious bait crate.
The traps are in this area of the map. You’ll notice it spans a bit of crag along a hill. To be sure to check both lower and upper portions of the area. The traps look like this:
Here are 10 traps I found. But you may find some that are not on this list. In the Wildwood it seems LOTRO have made completing these kind of quests easier by adding more than the required number. I am glad for this.

- 19.3S, 57.9W
- 19.1S, 59.1W

- 19.0S, 58.8W
- 18.9S, 58.8W
Copper of the Wildwood
Aim: Mine for 10 × Copper Ore.
Tools don’t mend or make themselves, you know! Weapon crafting and tools require metals. Oh and for “trade” too. Mining for Copper Ore is a benefit to the Woodcutter’s Brotherhood and the League of the Axe. So off you pop!
Much of the ore I found was at the base of the hill. But if you check around the small lake in the area you should find a couple there too.
You’ll see from this example that it does not look anything like normal mining/prospecting nodes. This is a good thing, especially as there are loads of actual Master Tier gathering nodes in the Wildwood.
I haven’t given you coordinates for this one just yet. I’m having to learn that it’s okay to have an initial version of a LOTRO guide, then update or upgrade it later.
Anyhow, once you have collected 10 × Copper Ore, you can put them into a storage crate when you’re next at one of the camps.
Rewards
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
Feathers of the Wildwood
Aim: Collect 10 × Feathers
Feathers have a variety of uses, not least on arrows which are needed for hunting, crafting and trading. So you need to go a-hunting, a merry-do me’hearty.
If you stick to the Northern part of the wood, then you’ll be fine. You could keep a watch out while also doing Baiting the Traps, for example.
As far as I can tell, all the Crabban-like birds are called Bleak-Feather Spy. Unlike the Ered Luin Slayer Deed however, you’re likely to only find Bleak-Feather Spies in ones or twos.
Once you have 10 × Feathers, place them in a storage box. Then you’ll get your reward:
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
Fish of the Wildwood
Aim: Catch 6 × Wild Minnows
To do this quest, you will need to have unlocked the fishing hobby and have a fishing rod. If you don’t have either yet and are currently in the Wildwood, you can visit the Hobby-Master in Trestlebridge.
Head to an area of water and use your hobby skill to cast and catch 6 × Wild Minnow. As with all fishing, there’s always a chance you’ll pick up weeds. Yay.
Unlike other quests – such as the Feathers of the Wildwood, the Wild Minnows go into your bags as a quest item . So make sure you have a minimum of six before moving onto another quest.
Rewards
The Minnows will need placing into a storage crate next time you have a chance.
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
Herbs of the Wildwood
Aim: Collect 10 × Eyebright Herbs
If it’s in-game daytime when you are doing this quest, I suggest switching floaty names on. And especially if you have a high frill (e.g. grass) density in your graphics settings. That said, Eyebright is a tall-ish plant with small white flower clusters. This makes it taller than some of the frills at least.
Once you have collected 10 × Eyebright, they’re ready for the storage crate.
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
Lumber of the Wildwood
Aim: Cut Lumber × 10 from fallen Trees.
As we discovered after the recent named storms here in Scotland, it makes so much more sense to use any trees already felled (either by people or by Nature), than to cut new trees. So, for Lumber of the Wildwood that’s what we’ll be doing! Unlike other Bulletin items, this is not for trade but for building and repair purposes. This suits both the Brotherhood and League.
This northern part of the wood is great for clearing several quests in a short-ish space of time. Nearby are Feathers of the Wildwood and Baiting the Traps. Plus, any animals you find will likely count for Hides and Meats of the Wildwood too.
You’re looking for huge, fallen Trees. Sounds simple, except this portion of the wood is very lush and very green. And so are the fallen trees you seek! Keep floaty names on, except maybe at night time. Oh and have fun testing how far away from the tree you can chop it, it’s really quite funny! Anyway, happy logging.
Once you have collected 10 × Lumber, they’re ready for the storage crate. Your pockets may well now be full of feathers, raw meat, oozing animals skins, herbs (not enough herbs to cancel out the smell of the other things). These too go in the (presumably interior-Tardis*) storage crate.
Your totally-a-surprise rewards are:
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
The next two quests work well side-by-side and, though I’ve just run it again and they don’t have a 100% drop rate so may not progress at exactly the same rate. However it is more efficient to have both in your quest log at the same time. Also, there was no particular need to show the “quest area” on these as various animals can be found in a variety of places.
Tip
You could, in fact, go do Helva’s Edge: Good Hunting, tag on a few extra kills and you’ll have completed the requirement of three quests in one go.
Hides of the Wildwood
Aim: Collect 10 × Animals Hides.
Kills count towards Meats of the Wildwood.
Reward
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
Meats of the Wildwood
Aim: Collect 10 × Animal Meat
Kills count towards Hides of the Wildwood.
Reward
- 23, 10
- 3 ×
As far as I can tell, any animal that would logically give skins and meats do. And, unlike A Wealth in Trust, Wargs (Wildwood Hunters) do count.
- Howling Duskwolf
- Moss-mantle Cow
- Wildwood Hunter (Wargs)
- Wildwood Boar
- Wildwood Bear
Poisoned Critters
The only one on the board marked as Urgent is Poisoned Critters. Animals in the Wildwood are being poisoned by Tarkrîp Orcs. Unsurprisingly they don’t want people eating these animals or infecting others. Your job is to “cure them”. There’s no quest item or action, so I guess they just hope people know the right food, concoction, magecraft etc!
Once you have given all the poisoned critters their medicine, then you’ll receive a prompt to complete the quest. They clearly trust you to get the job done!
Repeatable Wildwood Factionless Quests Map
The only other ones I have intentionally left off are Meats and Hides of the Wildwood as the creatures that count for that can be found throughout the ara.
Either way, I hope this helps you. Click/tap to see it as large as your device allows.
Wildwood Missions
Here are the links to all the Missions – these go to the Wiki, just so you know.
Missions Slayer Deeds
As well as needing to run all the missions at least once to complete all Wildwood Deeds, the Missions Slayer deed is a separate thing all on its own. So it really is worth your time looking to complete the Wildwood Missions. While you could repeat missions that have many enemies to hit that deed, simply successfully running the missions a few times will likely tick off those deeds without even focusing on it. That’s the best way to clear deeds, I think!
Non-Repeatable Factionless Quests
The last section in this rather epic piece on factionless Wildwood quests concerns a Huntress called Linnet Redholm who can be found at (22.1S,57.5W). The apparently-famous Huntress (and blames the “lazy bards of Bree” for not being locally known!) is hunting large and dangerous foes *. She would have you join her hunts and also stamp out those who abuse and mistreat the creatures in the wood.
Honourable Hunts
Aim: destroy 10 × Poisoned Traps
Orcs have been setting poisoned traps to catch creatures, which is a cruel way to trap them. Linnet asks you to destroy ten of them. This is how they appear:
As they are really flat to the ground, I found having floaty names on (Default keybind: N) and reducing frill density in graphics settings helped me find them.
The first thing to say here is there are definitely more than 10 so you should have little difficulty clearing the quest. That said here are some coordinates I remembered to note down:
- 20.4S, 56.7W
- 20.8S, 56.7W
- 20.9S, 56.6W
- 20.7S, 56.1W
- 20.8S, 55.9W
- 20.8S, 55.6W
- 20.6S, 55.7W
- 20.4S, 55.9W
- 20.5S, 55.6W
- 20.4S, 56.2W
- 20.4S, 56.4W
- 20.5S, 56.6W
To be honest, I’m putting this in for the sake of consistency now. Completionism, eh?
- 23, 10

Release the Hounds
Aims: Release Wolf Cubs × 4, Defeat Wildwood Cub Burglars × 8
Linnet turns her righteous anger on the brigands and thieves who are stealing wolf cubs next. But it’s not just a nice “release the cubs” quest. Oh noooo, she would have you kill eight burglars so that they can’t learn their lesson. Yeah, great.
While the area marks on the map for the Cub Burglars appears to be near Sutwarden, their camp is not at Sutwarden. it is at 25.3S, 55.8W.
You have to click on the front of the cage (or the floaty name) to free the cub from the (likely dead now) cub burglars.
Free 4 cubs and defeat/kill 8 cub burglars. Oh and hope that the cubs don’t plummet to their deaths after all your hard work.

The Wildwood Hunt
Remember I mentioned that you can join Linnet Redholm in her hunts? Well now’s your chance, she has four huge marks for you to target. You still get the traditional 23 × , 10 × and 3 × for the “parent” quest, but each target is also separately rewarded. I’ll let you read the backstory. I’m just mostly going to show you the target, give approximate coordinates and let you go hunting!
1. Brundarch the Great Boar
Coordinates: 18.6S, 58.9W
Whether by sickness or some form of “darkness” over the Wildwood, Brundarch has taken to attacking anyone and everyone. You must put a stop to it.
2. Dúgar the Black Elk
Coordinates: 24.9S, 58.9W
There’s no particular backstory to Dúgar, so I think he’s just a worthy target. Also, he looks pretty brown to me.
3. Gwengorn the White Stag
Coordinates: TBC
This one is unusual, but to explain it would give you a wee spoiler and I don’t want that. Also, completing this quest spawns another one:
3b. Punishing the Poachers
Prerequisite: Gwengorn the White Stag
Note: this is not factionless. But I have left it here as it follows after completing the Gwengorn quest.
A Woodcutter’s Brotherhood Hunter explains he got caught in a poacher’s net. He wants you to go and wreak revenge on his behalf. I mean “punish three poachers”, who are Half-Orcs. Head to 22.3S, 58.9W (just South-West of the Hunter), where conveniently is a camp of three half-orc poachers!
Rewards

- 1,200 (Woodcutter’s Brotherhood)
4. Lhudblath the Silver Warg
Coordinates: Wandering around 19.4S, 54.3W.
Terrible creatures often become the subject of lore and myth. This Warg is no different, apparently “forming out of the mist”. Well, made of mist or meat, we’ll be taking it down! Unsurprisingly, Lhudblath is at Gnawbone Pit. He wanders around though, so precise coordinates probably wouldn’t help you!

TL;DR No Shortage of Factionless Quests in the Wildwoods!
In total there are 26 Repeatable and 6 Non-Repeatable factionless quests in the Wildwood. And that’s excluding the 10 Daily Missions that also count towards the wrappers for the League of the Axe and the Woodcutter’s Brotherhood. “Daily” need not be “Repetative” in the Wildwood of Bree-land. So mix it up, relax and enjoy! Hope this epic guide was useful to someone out there!
