The Gardener's Apron is a rightfully-simple, mended and dirty tunic - almost the same state as my own "painting shirt" in real-Earth. Why do your gardening in your best clothes when the same one you've worn for 20 years still works? In its default colours it is a grubby white (though precisely the reason why you chose a white tunic of all colours has thankfully been forgotten in the mists of time!).
It has a high collar, maybe to protect your neck from bugs and thorns and does not hide your boots so you can choose your own footwear (e.g. Gardening Gloves) for the gardening job.
