Thaumaturge Hunting Log Rank 3 Targets
Kedtrap
Number Required: 3
Yay, another semi-sentient plant. Kedtraps are huge, moving “flowers” that spit seeds at you. It’s so nice to know the Twelveswood is so calm and tranquil. Also, have you seen an actual Ked, yet? If anything these blooms would be trapped by the Keds, not vice versa!
Kedtrap Location
These can be picked off individually, so I’ve marked a few dots on the map. However, the easiest way to clear it is if the FATE Kedtraps FATE” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>Kickin’ it with the Kedtraps is on.

The Black Shroud: South ShroudNearest Aetheryte
South Shroud: QuarrymillOvergrown Ivy
Number Required: 4
The more you venture through FFXIV, the larger some things get – but you remain the same size! Seems a tad unfair. Overgrown Ivy are larger version of the Microchu seen elsewhere. And there’s a FATE nearby here with an enormous (overfed) one, too!
You’ll find Overgrown Ivies in…wait for it, the Nine Ivies part of the East Shroud. Though there are definitely more than Nine around here.

The Hawthorn HutForest Yarzon
Number Required: 4
As the Forest Yarzon is only Difficulty 22 for Thaumaturges, I can say with certainty that you must be sick of Yarzons! And if you’re not, you will be by the end of Rank 3! You’ll find this particular breed of ugliness en route to Fool Falls, not far from some Coeurls. Also, while Camp Bronze Lake is theoretically nearer, if you’re close to being on-level, then Aleport is much easier.
Region/Area
Upper La Noscea: OakwoodNearest Aetheryte
Upper La Noscea: Bronze LakeYarzon Scavenger
Number Required: 2
The Yarzon Scavenger is described in the Hunting Log as being in the Footfalls. The problem is that’s a huge area. To find this particular breed of six-legged freaks, head North past Vesper Bay. Continue North until you come to the murky area and the Yarzons are right there as you emerge from the tunnel.
If Laughing Toads are on one of your hunting logs at rank 3, then these are in the same area, just further in.

Western Thanalan: the Footfalls (Parata's Peace)Nearest Aetheryte
Western Thanalan: HorizonBark Eft
Number Required: 3
The Bark Eft is one of various species of Eft across Eorzea and, as they do, you can find them in or near water. These murky green ones can be found in the tiny river that lies on the boundary of the Upper and Lower Paths in the South Shroud. The coordinates given are approximate, because you can find them anywhere along that river.
Thankfully, you don’t need many – so only defeat what you need so they’re around for the next person clearing their Hunting Log entry.

South Shroud: Lower PathsNearest Aetheryte
South Shroud: Camp TranquilLaughing Toad
Number Required: 4
The Laughing Toad has never been known to laugh, or crack funny jokes. As with all gigantoads, they do have some of the weirdest facial expressions for an animal! If Yarzon Scavengers are on your list then Laughing Toads are in the same area.
Head further North towards the label “Parata’s Peace”. You’ll find two sizes of toad back there. The ones you want are the smaller of the two types. They come equipped with the usual Sticky Tongue and AoE knockback abilities. And if you’re within aggro level range then expect to be knocked around a bit by nearby toads too.

Western Thanalan: The Footfalls (Parata's Peace)Nearest Aetheryte
Western Thanalan: HorizonGlowfly
Number Required: 2
The Glowfly is what we call in our world, a Firefly, which is a different Hunting Log Target! They are tiny, hovering insects that emit a yellowy-green aura, making them easy to spot at night or in dark weather. There are also plenty to be found in the Bramble Patch and if Jumping Djigga is also on your list they are in the same area.
Region/Area
East Shroud: The Bramble PatchNearest Aetheryte
East Shroud: The Hawthorn HutJumping Djigga
Number Required: 4
What a beautiful, buggy source of disease! I can’t imagine why you’d be asked to kill a number of this poisonous death-bringers, can you? The Jumping Djigga does as its name implies – it jumps and flutters from place-to-place, rather than actually flying.
This breed of insect is found in the Bramble Patch, but not the area you initially arrive in. Take the North-West path (on the map it’s the path that’s parallel to the one for the Sanctum of the Twelve). Incidentally, if Glowfly is also on your Hunting Log Rank 3, then they are in the same area as the Jumping Djiggas.

East Shroud: The Hawthorn HutRiver Yarzon
Number Required: 4
I bet you’ll never guess what kind of location you’ll find the River Yarzon in? A river! I knew I’d surprise you with that revelation. It’s slightly underwhelming given the Forest Yarzons are also found in a river. As are many others! But not all.
The particular river you’re looking for comes straight out of the South-Western wall of Quarrymill. It roughly continues in that direction too.

South Shroud: QuarrymillPotter Wasp Swarm
Number Required: 4
Do all these clouds of bee-flies look the same to you? Regardless of the appearance, the ones in Southern Thanalan are Potter Wasp Swarms. They do spawn in various locations and bumble around a smallish area. Here I’ve marked where there are two swarms together, just North of The Sepulcre, where you’ll also find the Corpse Brigade Knuckledancers.

Southern Thanalan: Broken WaterNearest Aetheryte
Southern Thanlan: Little Ala MhigoPhurble
Number Required: 4
I cannot decide if Phurbles are cute or creepy. The Furble is a fur-ball with almost human/hyur-looking eyes and they bounce around the fluff themselves up. They are also involved in a questline with a deluded bald man trying to get his hair back.
Sadly these are a bit of a trek to get to, as Camp Drybone is your closest Aethyrite. Phurbles can be found as you head towards Burgundy Falls and the Burning Wall.

Eastern Thanalan: Camp DryboneCorpse Brigade Knuckledancer
Number Required: 4
What a lovely club the Corpse Brigade are! Oh no, I confused them with something else… There are various classes in and around The Sepulcre in Southern Thanalan, but it’s the scowling, Corpse Brigade Knuckledancer Hyurs you’re after. Thankfully you can clear this hunting log entry without going inside – assuming no other players are around. Various quests do bring you here, so be patient if others are nearby. If you’re even vaguely on-level, inside is pretty much a death trap with the number of enemies in there.

Corpse Brigade KnuckledancerFire Sprite
Number Required: 4
Fire Sprites are found all over the place, as with other Elemental sprites and, unsurprisingly, usually near fire and/or in hot areas. They’re also very pretty and mesmerising – and (except when involved in a FATE or Leve) are passive, so they only attack you when you hit them first. Seems fair enough.
The Thaumaturge Hunting Log Rank 3 suggests The Red Labyrith in Southern Thanalan. But I think this is just because it roughly matches the level of the log. I forgot to check if any Fire Sprite will do. If you cleared this with those you find <L10, can you tweet me to confirm (or deny) whether I’m correct. Thanks!

Southern Thanalan: Little Ala MhigoStroper
Number Required: 4
And welcome to my most detested enemy-type in FFXIV, the Stroper, part of the lucious Morbol family. These revolting, giant, anything-eater plants are plentiful. They’re found in the Central Shroud at Hopeseed Pond where, ironically, you will find precisely zero hope. There are also Stropers in the South Shroud, where they are a few levels higher.
Heliostropers
Be careful around Hopeseed if you’re within a few levels of the Stropers. That’s because, nearby, are the Heliostropers which are much harder to take down – and much bigger. They’re part of an unrelated quest and will not count towards your Hunting Log.
Alternative Aetheryte
Although I’ve mentioned Bentbranch being the nearest one, it is quicker to get to Sorrel Haven from Gridania. Simply select the White Wolf Gate instead of the other two. As there’s a chance you have Gridania port for free or reduced rates, it may be cheaper to go that way too.

TL;DR More Travel in the Thaumaturge Hunting Log Rank 3
Enjoy visiting different area now. If you’re doing clearing your Thaumaturge Hunting Log while questing on-level, this extra travel reflects the freedom you have to wander Eorzea in the story. Rank 3 faces you with many different creatures and fighting styles. As a Thaumaturge, remember to avoid damage first then deal it – some of these enemies hit hard. Have fun.
